For those interested, MY TECHNIQUE:

I first researched the hotels in this zone at the 5* level on this forum, found out which ones would be most likely won and what the lowest prices were, i.e. Marriott Grosvenor House @ 125, Marriott Grosvenor Square @ 145, Inter-Continental Park Lane @ 160 in April/May 2010.

Found that most often, bidders won Grosvenor House. Assumed (hoped) I would get the same bc of location and quality of hotel (TripAdvisor).

First bid $120, rejected, but was counter-offered $169. I declined, and used my free rebids using the zone technique described in this forum with great success. Rebid in increments of $5 over 2 days, finally accepted at $155. Was only counter-offered that one time.

I believe that other dates would have been successful at a lower price. For some reason, Tuesday Apr 20th 2010 seems to be a more expensive night than all others at the 5 hotels I've looked at, when looking directly on the hotel's website. HOTWIRE also gave me a more expensive rate for this night specifically; must be some convention or big event in the city that night.

Good luck to all looking to book this hotel! I'm excited and looking forward to a great stay!
