We (2 adults and 1 child (7 years old) are looking for a hotel in New York (5-9-2010/5-14-2010)
I am looking for a hotel at HOTWIRE and I always fill in 2 adults and one 1 child.
This time I forgot the 1 child and I noticed I get more (good) deals for only 2 adults!
The one I was interested in is not showing when I fill in 2 adults and one child.
For me it is the first time that I use HOTWIRE so I don't know if I start booking this hotel, is it possible to fill in later that we are whit 2 adults and 1 child instead of 2 adults?
Dit you know this difference between whit or whit out children?
Jackie

Selecting 2adults/1child ensures sleeping accomodations for all three of you... whereas selecting only 2 adults could easily (especially in NYC) results in a room with only one bed and little/no room for a rollaway.
In NYC space is at such a premium that many hotel rooms only have one bed and it is often considered an upgrade for a room with two beds (some hotels don't even have rollaways). Sine such a large percentage of rooms can only accomodate two people, by searching for triple occupancy there are fewer hotels available, and these rooms often cost more. As well, even if a hotel does have rooms which can accomoate triple/quad occupancy, they may not offer them to HOTWIRE since it would make managing their room inventory more difficult having to 'guarantee' a triple occupancy room... they'd prefer to sell the room as 'run of house' (assigned at check-in) so they can give you what's available at that time, rather than a specific room type.
If you did book a room for only 2adults and received a room with only one bed, how would feel about creating a makeshift bed on the floor with sheets and/or a quick Target run to buy an air mattress?

I suggest you book for the correct number of guests, but you had mentioned only booking for double occupany, which as previously mentioned is a risk. This then raises the question what will you do if you receive a room with only one bed, to which getting an air mattress is a somewhat obvious solution. This may or may not be against hotel policy depending upon the number of occupants allowed in that room type (usually mandated by fire code)
I'll re-iterate what has been stated elsewhere on the board... in NYC it is not recommended to book for double occupancy when you'll be more than that, as there are a high percentage of rooms that only have one bed, many of which have little no room for a rollaway (or an air mattress)
