Hi I'm off to san fran from the UK with my sis november 19th, been looking at hotels and come accross priceline. I'd love to give it ago so just need a bit of advice really.
Is it too early to bid now or would it be better to wait till closer to the date? We're on a budget of about £50 per night and think Union square will be the most central and possibly nicest location??? So what now should I bid or wait? If I bid, how much should I put? Are they all nice in 4*? If I get one I don't like can I cancel without fee? Thank you so much in advance, this site looks great and I will def use your links ;-) |

Welcome to BetterBidding!
Please keep all posts for this stay in the same thread. You can see the hotels reported in each zone in the Priceline Hotel List. From there you can decide if you want to bid 4*, 3.5*, or 3* as well as which zone(s) are acceptable (note that Union Square is divided into an East and West zone) What is your budget (in US dollars) per nite before taxes and fees, as that will play an factor in how realistic your desired star level is... although a quick look it appears that rates are not high for your dates at all. Thanks, I think were looking at about $70 before tax's so maybe 3* would be a more realistic choice.
Think I am going to book through Hotels.com as backup and then come back to this the week before to try my luck on priceline |

Hotels.com doesn't have any cancellation charges, but you are still subject to any the specific hotel might have. Do be sure to read that fine print.

Please note that this board is an affiliate of Hotels.com... please use our link to begin your reservation.
However, not really sure if i agree with your gameplan... why wait to bid until a week before? I'm assuming the Hotels.com hotel will be costing you more than $70/nite... so why not bid now in hopes of ladning something for around this pricepoint? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Thanks for your replies, I know what you are saying and I would book now usually. My problem is that we have standby tickets for the flights (free from virgin), it shouldn't be a problem getting on and about a wk before we should know if the flight is likely to be full or not. But there is still a chance that we won't be able to get on so shouldn't commit to something I can't get out of.
Will use your link for Hotels.com, think we will go with the chancellor which looks ok for about $80/night. |

With your flight situation, I think you're doing the right thing. Chancellor is nice with a great location, BTW.

Ok so the flight looks good and I'm ready to book!
Need some advice now please. We have a budget of $70 and want to stay in usw nob hill. Unsure as to what we can expect for our money, ie should we do 70 for a 4* or should we start lower and go for a 3*? How much cheaper do you think we could get a 3*? Thanks in advance |

Maybe I should leave it longer to get lastminute? Also had $55 rejected on 3* too |

Using HW as a benchmark, there appears to be lots of availability. HW also has a USW 3.5* for $95, which means you might not be far off. Give yourself a little wiggle room and try bidding up to your $80 reserved rate and you may score. Be sure to take advantage of free rebids, as there are plenty.
Give yourself a bit more $$ room on the 3*, also. The cheapest 3* bids I could find in the archives were $56 for HI Golden Gateway and $66 for BW Tuscan Inn. Both locations aren't as popular/expensive at USW/USE, typically. Good luck and let us know what happens. |

I booked Galleria Park for $63 a night on almost the same dates 20-22 on Travelocity. It was the best price for 3.5*. Hotels, priceline, and hotwire all wanted $75-79.

Hmm, I checked Travelocity again and the queen rooms aren't available anymore. Those rooms might all be gone.
