I am looking to book a hotel in Pensacola Beach for this coming weekend. When I went to the name your own price function on priceline, I can choose between a 2.5 star hotel, and a 2 star hotel, and a one star hotel. My question is how close priceline sticks to there star ratings when using choose your own price. According to the hotels that come up on the retail side of their site, there is only one 2.5 star hotel in Pensacola Beach (its a Hampton Inn), but on every other travel site I have gone on, the Holiday Inn Express in Pensacola Beach is listed as a 2.5 star. Holiday Inn Express is listed as a 2 star hotel on the retail side of priceline, but it is listed as an example of a 2.5 star hotel on the bidding side. I am just trying to figure out if the star ratings are different on the bidding side, or can I feel confident the hotel I will get is a Hampton Inn since it technically is the only 2.5 star hotel listed through priceline.

I was wondering about that myself and then came across some info here on this site which stated that the sets of hotels used on the retail side may differ from those used on the opaque side: Priceline FAQ

The star ratings should be the same on each side of the service... but the universe of hotels that each uses is different.
