Been trying to get a 5* for Rome (Central) for 9/5 - 9/8.

Started about a week ago at $129/night. Counter offer on every attempt for $271/night and always rejected.

Today bid up to $219/night, counter offer at $269/night (I'm guessing it dropped due to the slight rise of the dollar). Rejected.

I'm guessing this is the Boutique 5* hotel listed on HOTWIRE, St. George I believe. I am really hoping for the Intercontinental though.

Good deals in Rome seem hard to come by.

Do you have a backup booking? You are going at a very busy time.

For Rome, PRICELINE is not always the best option. If you look at 5* options at www.hotelscombined.com, there are many 5* hotels in central Rome that are substantially cheaper than the counteroffer you got.

I just stayed at the St George. Booked a prepaid rate through their website for a deluxe room at 230 Euros , tax and breakfast included. IMO, not worth it. The room (although "deluxe") was very small and the A/C didnt work properly.

the 4.5 star via HOTWIRE was the Rome Intercontinental for us...booked it today for 9/5 only (we are going on a cruise so only staying one night). The rate was $274 per night....with tax is just over $300.....a $100 savings versus directly booking with the hotel (which was also a non-refundable rate).
