Priceline Hotel: Good Hotel for good Price

Did anyone book a hotel in New York for a week in September and has any experience about the price? I already tried, but didnt get the price i was offering, what minimum price would you offer for 3* hotel in Central Park south, time square area?

I choose Central Park South and Time Square for 160 $ / night

At current rates (and last minute) it doesn't look like $160 is going to be enough for a 3 star hotel in either of these zones... you're more likely looking in the $190-$230 area, imo.

 

Are you able to increase your budget?  Do you have any back-up plan at the moment that is close to the amount you have already bid?  Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

So with Last minute you mean its more expensive, than last week? what about waiting till tomorrow or rather book today

By 'last minute' you don't have the luxury of waiting or exploring many different options. 

 

Sometimes the best deals come way ahead of your arrival date, other times rates come down closer to your dates of travel, but we don't recommend waiting until the very last minute since it's a gamble... at this point there is little reason for hotels to lower rates drastically as they can't do much to effect demand.  If some hotel offered rates for tomorrow nite at $125/nite how many people could realistically pick-up and head to NYC because of a good hotel rate?  Even if they could change a hotel's occupancy from 65% full to 100%, would they have scheduled enough staff (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, maintenance, etc) to properly service a full hotel?  We have seen much less last minute rate drops over the last few years... last minute bookings were more of a strategy 7-10 years ago when the economy was weak, there was little business travel, and hotels has very high vacancy numbers)

 

Also, you're looking for a full week stay which makes things a bit tougher, since if a hotel is nearly full even just one nite of your trip and does not offer any discounted opaque inventory for that one nite, then that hotel is out of the running to be able to accept your bid (which is why i had asked above if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option... although not sure if it will necessarily help much at this point)

So if you split your stay w/4 nights at $248 and 3 at $158, average per night would be around $209, plus you could use the 5% promotion on the 4 night stay.
