Hello,

I've just been rejected twice by PRICELINE

we're looking for a 5* hotel, would settle for a 4* if we have to

Looking for center strip

The first bid was for section 14 - Central West Strip. Min bid of $100 max bid of $150 selecting 5 star hotel.......REJECTED! (was targeting cesars palace or cosmopolitan)

2nd bid was for section 18 - Southwest. min bid of $150, max bid of $200 selecting 5 star hotel. REJECTED (was targeting aria or vdara)

i'm not sure how to approach my 3rd attempt. Any ideas for this bidding rookie? This is my first time trying this.

I wouldn't mind staying at the MGM which is a 4* hotel, but then i run the risk of getting the Tropicana which is also a 4* (how is tropicana a 4* wtf?) If i'm willing to pay to stay at say the MGM, how do i avoid not getting the Tropicana?

Essentially we want a nice 4 or 5 star hotel, preferrable the bigger nicer casinos like MGM, Aria, Vdara, Cesars, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn. My fear is getting stuck in a smaller casino hotel which we wont like.

Greatly appreciate all and any help!

in the Southeast area, we wouldn't mind MGM, Elara, or The Signature, all minimum 4 stars, but then you have oldie but goodie tropicana sitting there at a 4 star as well, no idea why a 4 star for that hotel. So i'd be fine with 3 of the 4 four star hotels in that area. How do i make sure i don't get Tropicana? would making my starting bid higher guarantee that i dont?

sorry last question. I see a lot of referencing to Priceline.com and people listing hotel amenities trying to guess what hotel it is. Does priceline tell you what you can get for a certain price point or can you book through the actual pricline link that shoes the amenities, but not the actual hotel? would that be cheaper then going through the bidding process?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

We had just researched rates for another user for these dates and i noted that they were high... regular rates for 5* casino hotels on the strip start at about $450/nite for these dates; so your ~$200 bids don't really have much chance at being successful. (closest i see you can get is the Vdara (non-casino) at $345/nite)

When bidding on PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose... with bidding there is no way to target (or avoid) a specific hotel in the zone.

The references you see to hotels with prices and amenities is thru PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE (use our BiddingHelper.com and you will see results from both with one search)

This is what i believe i'm seeing that meet your 4* criteria when searching for your dates (confirm your dates on the landing page of any links provided below):

should i maybe wait a little longer and see if prices drop?

Nobody can say if rates will drop or head even higher in the coming weeks... it all depends how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations (ie- supply / demand)

We can't see the hotel name either , so can never be 100% certain, but if you read other posts on the board you will see that we have become pretty good at researching PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE hotel offers... i'm comfortable with this guess (and if you look at the room types of the Priceline Express Offer (confirm your dates on the landing page) the room types match the room types of Planet Hollywood so this should give you increased confidence)

Sometimes you need to make trade-offs between what you want from a hotel and what you want to spend.

You may want to use our sister site RefundableRates.com to book something that is cancel-able... protects you from rates moving higher from here while also giving you the flexibility to take advantage of any HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS deal that may come up and work for your needs.  However, any back-up should be a hotel that you're willing to stay at and that you're willing to pay the going rate... otherwise it's not really a back-up.
