I am looking for a hotel to stay in Venice. 2 adults, 2 kids (10, 14). Because of kids, I can't use PRICELINE.

HOTWIRE options are below:

Area: San Marco - Dorsoduro

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Internet access, Kitchenette

Price: $115 / night

Star: 4*

Area: San Marco - Dorsoduro

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Internet access, Children's activities

Price: $136 / night

Star: 3*

Area: Cannaregio

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Internet access

Price: $137 / night

Star: 3*

Please help me to ID these hotels.

Thanks.

4* looks like a steal, unless hotwire is not using a correct rating...

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Keep in mind (if you're not aware) that star ratings in Europe are a bit more generous than their US counter-parts... so a 3* hotel in Europe may be more like a 2*-2.5* property here in the US; would this be acceptable for this trip?

As for the 4* hotel, unfortunately i don't have any insight into this one, but the 2.5/5.0 review for 'Quality of Service' and the somewhat low 6.5/10 review rating by previous guests is not a ringing endorsement for this property.

What is it that you're looking for in a hotel for this trip and what is your maximum budget (per nite before fees/taxes)?

Thanks.

I am looking for a low budget option for 2 adults + 2 kids. Don't have a specific number in mind.

But something cheap, no frills, but clean, i.e. safe and clean place to sleep, but nothing more than that.

It will be our first time in Venice (and Venice will be our first stop on Venice-Florence-Rome trip) and from what I've read, in Venice it is better to stay in a central location.

Using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and searching for '1 mile of Venice, Italy, i found the following:

How about the Hotel San Gallo for $164/nite... good TA reviews and it appears plenty of 'real' bedding for everyone in your family and includes breakfast.

Would this work for your needs?

 Thanks.

 $185+tax for the refundable, $164+tax non-refundable.

That is kind of expensive. I am sure that I will figure out how to find something cheaper.

That is why I was hoping to score a good deal on "hot rates" hotels using this site's HOTWIRE  link.

Otherwise, there are plenty of other options.

Yes, there are cheaper options, but I didn't find too much in the sub-$150 range that had decent reviews and location.

Not really much different than some of the options you inquired about above...
If you were willing to spend $135/nite for the above 3* options, this 'known' hotel comes out to about $30/nite more... but if you value the free breakfast at about $20/day (assuming $5 per person, would likely cost more than this if eating elsewhere) you're looking at a $10/day difference, which is a reasonable price to pay knowing if the property will be convenient for your plans, that is has good reviews, and 'real bed' sleeping accommodations for your entire family.

You could find a hidden gem that works out perfectly for your needs, but may also find that many of the 'bargains' could spoil a trip, especially in Europe where i noted above that star ratings can be much more generous than what you may be accustomed to in the US and many 'mid level' accommodations are already assumed to be no-frills.

Hopefully you find what it is that you are looking for that meets your needs and budget, but from my own European travel experience many years ago, don't ruin this leg of your trip by trying to save $xx dollars, as it's not worth it compared to the $xxxx that has already been spent just to get there.
