New York in July

Hi! I'm in the early stages of researching hotels in New York. I'm going 7/13/17 - 7/23/17. I have never been to NYC, so ideally I'd like to stay in Manhattan for the right price. I looked on Priceline and it looks like I can save about $500 over the course of 10 days if we stay in Long Island City. But I'm guessing I'll probably spend that on Uber and Lyft fares alone. Do you have any helpful traveling and vacation advice? I want to stay at $200 and under per night, taxes and fees included.

Thanks!

If you do decide to stay in LIC i would sooner recommend splitting your stay with the first half of your trip in LIC and then the second half of your trip within Manhattan.  While LIC does often offer a cheaper alternative to Manhattan, you do lose quite a bit of the 'NYC vibe' which is part of what makes NYC so special.

From LIC most people would commute to Manhattan via the subway (rather than Uber or Lyft) as it runs frequently, is reliable, relatively inexpensive, and no traffic to worry about.

You should be able to get something within your budget regardless if you decide to spend all of the stay in Manhattan vs. splitting the trip, it more so comes down to what type of experience it is that you're looking for and if the savings of staying in LIC are worthwhile (in exchange for the 'pulse' of Manhattan)
