We will be visiting NewYork City Sept 6 thru Sept 9. We have a budget of 200 dollars per night now and plan to bid on Priceline.we are comfortable with the subway and are in good walking shape. What would be the best zones to bid? I know Times Square is popular and is probably the most expensive. We would like a 3.5 to 4 star accommodation. What would you suggest?

Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs a. 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?

Also, is your $200/nite budget your maximum bid amount OR your all-in (after taxes/fees)?  At current rates the former may be do-able... the latter substantially more difficult.

I would jump on this 4* Midtown East hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) that is offered for just $100/nite with:

Pets Allowed

Business Center

Fitness Center

No Smoking Rooms/Facilities

==> best guess for this one would be the Doubletree By Hilton Metropolitan New York

This was not offered yesterday when i first read (and began researching) your post trip... i wouldn't even bid in hopes of saving a few dollars, as i don't think this is going to last very long, imo.

If you go for the above let us know how it goes... or if for some reason you want to bid let us know and we'll go that route (but i don't recommend it since you 'know' (assuming our guess is correct) that this hotel is well located and near subway access)

Congratulations on your success!

While this may not the best or fanciest hotel in NYC, this is certainly a GREAT deal for this property this time of year... glad to see you were able to take advantage of it.

You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.

Enjoy your stay.
