Hello looking at booking a hotel for my wife and her friend weekend of September 30 - October 3

Budget:  around $225/night All in.

Looking for: location close to restaurants, shopping bars, want to be right in the tourist spot - also safer area if possible.

any suggestions? open to Priceline, hotwire, and priceline express...

thanks

There is no one area of NYC that is going to get you close to everything... it is too big of a city for that.  Mostly what you want to look for is a location that is close to the subway (ideally multiple subway lines) so that you can use your hotel location as a 'launching pad' to begin your daily exploration of the city, as well as conveniently return during the day to freshen up, rest, drop off shopping bags accumulated during the day, etc.

With the above noted, this is during high-season for NYC and you'll be surprised that $225 all-in doesn't go as far as you think.

Currently the best bang for your buck would be this 4* Midtown East hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) with:

Pets Allowed

Business Center

Restaurant

Fitness Center

No Smoking Rooms/Facilities

==> best guess for this property would be the W New York which is not in the center of it all, but is easily accessible to most everything... St Patrick's Cathedral about 5 minute walk away, Times Square a 10+ minute walk (or take the E or M subway which is 4 blocks away... the E train can also easily get them downtown by the World Trade Center), Chinatown/Little Italy can be reached by the 6 train just 2 blocks away)

Let us know your thoughts on either of the above (or how it goes if you purchase one of them) and we'll take it from there.

Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

A litlte higher in price is this 4* Rockefeller Center - Bryant Park hotel (again, confirm your dates on the landing page) for $174/nite with:

Business Center

Restaurant

Free Internet

Fitness Center

No Smoking Rooms/Facilities

==> the Club Quarters Midtown would be my best guess for this one which would be very centrally located  with just a 2 block walk to the heart of Times Square and multiple subway lines and stations within a 3-4 block radius

Thanks - sorry got busy and didn't have a chance to come back to the site.

But aren't Chelsea and/or Times square a better location?

If I were to increase my budget to $250-$260 all in would that make a difference?

Or change weekends?  want to do a weekend trip sometime in sept....

And open to Hotwire, bidding on priceline, or priceline express - wherever I can get most bang for the buck!

An easy way to see what weekends might be better is to just plug the 4 or 5 sets of dates into the QuickQuote BiddingHelper on the top left of the page here.  And then look at the Priceline express 4* offers for the zones you like.

From what respect?  As noted above the W New York is near a subway station, 10 minute walk to Times Square, and bars, restaurants, etc. nearby.  Chelsea is very desirable these dates because of what it offers... but some of the hotels can be a 10 minutes walk to the subway and much of the area is not near any 'tourist' spots.  All of these locations should be 'fine' since as i noted above, you won't find any one location that is near everything and what you really want is a location that gives you access to everything (ie- via easy access to the subway) since the city is quite vast and there will be things you want to see, do, visit, etc. that are located all over the city.

As an example... assuming you want to visit Central Park (to the north), Times Square (midtown), Empire State Building (midtown), 9/11 memorial (downtown), The HIghline (Chelsea).  These are literally all over the city and there is no one location that will be next to all of these sites, so what you ideally want is a location that is near a subway line (ideally multiple subway lines) that can get you to each location with a minimal number of transfers.

You should use the BiddingHelper.com (PRICELINE EXPRESS and Hotwire Easy View tab) and/or MAPS and HOTELS.com as Romelle suggested above to see if there are any major price differences for the dates that would work for your needs, but generally speaking the later you get in September the busier the city will tend to get.  If you could push your trip a little forward to the last week of August i think you will find better pricing, if not, then i'd look toward Labor Day Weekend, and then the rest of the weekends in September.

Hello I posted a couple months ago but now plans and dates have firmed up.  Looking for 2 rooms, 2 adults each room.  Looking for ideally 4.5* -5*, but will consider 4* with at least 95% positive reciews.

Manhattan 10/6 - 10/9

Budget - up to $400-450/night/room

To give an idea of what I've see. I'm seeing a HOTWIRE rate for $274/night in Chelsea 95% positive reviews for 4.5* - that looks good although not sure about location.

Open to PRICELINE bidding and PRICELINE EXPRESS deals too

Thanks!!
