elhaugen
I have 3 months before I go to Dulles. Is it better to rent now or wait? Shall I bid? I am very new to traveling so could use any help. A search online showed prices from $472 (pay now/no refunds) and up. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! How much of a discount would you need to make locking in a lower price worthwhile at this time? prcieline..hotwire Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
elhaugen
We are seniors (75). I think more things can go wrong for our age group. This $472 rate is very tempting but 3 months out is a long time for something to go wrong. How close to our travel date do you think we can get a good rate like this? Link to comment
thereuare
There is no way to know if rates will go up, down, or remain the same between now and your trip... or if this rate will disappear tomorrow or if it will remain until the day of your pick-up. Using the RENTAL CAR button of our BiddingHelper.com tool, what is the best refundable that that you're able to find that you can use as a backup reservation? elhaugen
The best rate i could find was $578 which includes additional driver free. Link to comment
thereuare
So how much savings would you need from the $578 fare to make locking it in worthwhile (as well with no assurance that there will not be an additional fee for an additional driver)? I would make the refundable reservation now (you can always cancel and re-book should the price go even lower) and then try your bids up to whatever amount it would currently be worthwhile based upon your $578 back-up fare. Does that make sense? elhaugen
Thanks for the advice. At this time we have decided that we won't gamble with any amount of discount. I have booked the $578 refundable fare and will keep my eyes out for something better til the time of departure. Link to comment
