Hello. There are going to be two of us staying in New York from May 21 -25. Right now we are looking at hotels in three different areas; Empire State Building Area, Midtown East and Midtown West. I would like to keep our rates under $200 a night if possible. Would it be better to be bidding in different areas of New York? We also looked at Downtown - Financial District. We have never been to New York so we are trying to figure out where it would be best to stay. Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The more zones you include the more hotels have an opportunity to accept your bid price, so that increases your chances of landing the lowest price possible.

ESB an MTW are generally good zones to bid and are well located... most hotels in MTE are well located as well but a few can be up to a 10-15 minute walk to the subway, so you would need to be willing to accept this distance if including the MTE zone in your bidding (or use PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE where you may be able to successfully identify/guess the hotel being offered and know that it is closer to a subway)

Downtown - Financial is a bit out of the way if most of your activities will be taking place in midtown (about 20 minute subway ride) but is certainly do-able for the right price.

Other zones to consider:
Central Park South - well located but include the Hudson Hotel so has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) so need to be OK with this as an outcome if including this zone... but i mention as PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE can be an option if something in this zone is offered at a good price and you an determine that it's not the Hudson (assuming the small rooms at this property are not acceptable)

Chelsea - some hotels can be up to a 10 minute walk to the subway but still a very desirable zone as this is a hot area right now with lots of boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, etc.

Madison Square Garden - often one of the lower priced / better value areas, but contains the Wyndham New Yorker which gets mixed reviews (but has a great location diagonally across from Penn Station for easy subway access to get around the city), so would need to be OK wtih this as an outcome if bidding this zone

Times Square - usually a zone that people include in their bidding... is there a reason you intentionally excluded it? (hotel you don't like in the zone, feel it may be too crowded, etc?)
