I am looking to stay in New York reasonably central in midtown area in a 4 to 41/2 star hotel from 9/2 till the 14/2. I was wondering what would be a reasonable starting bid? However, to keep rates posted to the board consistent we will only supply a bidding strategy in US Dollars as it makes it clearer for future readers and also eliminates any interpretation in the future based upon the changes in exchange rates. Also, in your reply let us know your maximum budget for this trip (per nite before fees/taxes, and in US Dollars) so that any strategy we suggest doesn't go higher than you're willing to pay. thereuare Posted January 14, 2016 Report Share Posted January 14, 2016 In NYC there is usually a very large jump in price between 4* and 4.5* property, and at current rates, i don't think you'll be successful for a 4.5 star property at $120 or less (you would need to be closer to $175+ based upon current rates). However, you can get something at the 4* level at $125 or less, but first a few comments on zones: Chelsea Madison Square Garden Midtown West Time Square Empire State Building --> all of the above are generally considered to be well located and in a desirable area Midtown East - most hotels are well located, but a handful can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable? Central Park South - this zone contains the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms, even by NYC standards, would this be an acceptable outcome? If only bidding the first group of zones i think you'll be successful at $125 or less... if including the second group you may be able to get something closer to the $100-$110 area.
