Priceline Hotel: San Francisco Stay 10/24-27

Hello,

I am looking for a hotel in San Francisco 10/24 through 10/27. I was hoping to find a 5 for under $230 or a 4.5* for under $180 in Fishermans Wharf, Financial District, SOMA, or Union Square East. I have tried bidding multiple times on Priceline with my top bid for 5* being $230 and 4.5* 180. I am wondering if these prices are unrealistic or if perhaps I should be searching for just 10/24-10/26. I would prefer not to change hotels if possible, but I do have rewards points I could use to book the Hyatt Regency. Looking at reviews it just didn't seem that special. I would potentially be open to a 4*, it just seemed there are a lot more options as far as what I may end up with versus the more limited 5/4.5*.

The second part of our trip we are staying in Monterey starting the 27th. I had considered looking for a hotel in the Big Sur area for the 26th, but it does not seem like there are a lot of options that would fit for our budget and comfort. I suppose we could go to Monterey early or use rewards for the 26th in San Francisco if you think I would have a better shot getting a lower price on weekend nights.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

We'll use this thread for San Fran - please post a new thread for the Monterey stay. Unfortunately, for 10/24-27 you're probably looking at over $300 for a 4* or above. 10/24-26 is somewhat cheaper, but still expensive - there is a 4* in the Financial District or $215 for 10/24-26 on HOTWIRE.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Thank you for your reply and information. I apologize for the delayed response. I had selected to be following the thread and to be notified instantly, however I did not see any notification. Is there something else I need to select to be emailed when responses are posted?

* I think the best way to handle the three nights is use reward points (15,000) for the 26th at the Hyatt Regency. This night does seem to be much more expensive than the other two.

* For the 24th and 25th, my options would be to book together (from BiddingHelper):

HW - 4*, $151/nt Financial District - Embarcadero
Amenities Include: Internet access, Pet friendly, Fitness center, Business center, Internet access

PL - 4*, $158/nt Financial District - Embarcadero Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher)

Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center

* Or separately:

24th

HW - 4*, $159/nt Financial District - Embarcadero

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access

HW - 4*, $178/nt Fishermans Wharf

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Business center, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

HW - 4.5*, $213/nt Union Square East

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Spa services, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

PL - 4*, $167/nt Financial District - Embarcadero, 8/10 or higher

Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center

PL - 4*, $188/nt Fishermans Wharf, 7/10 or higher

Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Fitness Center

PL - 4*, $208/nt Union Square East - Nob Hill Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher)

    Business Center, Restaurant, Fitness Center

25th

HW - 4*, $137/nt Financial District

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access

PL - 4*, $144/nt Financial District Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher)

Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center

I suppose one last option would be to name a price on Priceline for 24-26 or each night individually. I really appreciate any advice! I know I've presented a lot of options, I am just trying to find the nicest hotel for the best price (like everyone!).

Kind regards

I'm a member, not one of the board officials that does the "educated guesses".  But it looks like there are lots of repeats in your lists.  As near as I can tell from looking at just the lists of amenities, the 2 offers on 24-25 and 25 alone are the same.  They also are 2 of the 6 offers on the 24th, but on the 24th 4 other hotels also present offers.

Maybe you could first just get the educated guesses as to the 2 repeating offers.  Then, if you like one of them, go with that for both nights.

If you don't like either of them, then you might try bidding, since to go with the offers, even if you pick a different hotel for the 24th, you are still stuck with one you don't like for the 25th.  And you have the inconvenience of moving.

teeki,

All hotels are individually researched, so with 10 hotel requests above (i didn't look to see how many were unique and how many were duplicates), even if each hotel take 3 minutes to research (sometimes a little less, other times substantially more) we're looking at 30+ minutes, which creates a significantly delay in responding to requests from other users in a timely manner... not to mention that you may not even go with one of the above and decide to bid on PRICELINE instead.

So let's go back to the basics, other than 'best hotel for the best price' what is it that you really want for this trip and are you willing to change hotels for $10/nite savings? (how much savings would you need per nite to make changing hotels worthwhile?

Also, what happened to the nite of 10/26-10/27, are you giving up on that nite OR planning on booking that separately? (making it potentially 3 hotels in 3 nites and needing to change hotels an additional time)

Assuming that staying at the same hotel is ideal, using the two offers for your 10/24-10/26 stay, the HOTWIRE offer has a 95% recommendation from previous guests and a 4.0/5.0 TA rating... are any of the other offers, most of which are more expensive, as highly rated as this one??) Also, i believe you double-upped the "internet access' amenity and omitted the 'Restaurant' amenity, as this is the amenity set i'm currently seeing for the 4* hotel in this zone for $151/nite:

Pet Friendly

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

... if this is what you're seeing, my guess would be the Le Meridien.

I believe the PRICELINE EXPRESS property is also the Le Meridien.

Does this property work for your needs? If not, let us know what is 'missing' from this property, how much more would you be willing to pay for something closer to what you'd like, and how much you would need to save to make changing hotels worthwhile... we'll then have a look to see if there is something better that meets your needs.

If you are liking the hotel the HW and PE will probably give you, the numbers to compare are the bottom lines after the fees and taxes are included and after you've included the current $15 off for HW (described at the top of the page and in the moderator's signature).  Not just the $ bid amount.

If a 4* hotel becomes available for the 24th-27th and it is under $200/nt in the four ideal areas, I would likely book it. I will continue to use the Bidding.Helper to check for updates.

Let us know if something meeting this criteria appears in the next 2-3 days and what you ultimately decide to do for this trip.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Good luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

I ended up using my rewards points for my Hyatt stay so that we could stay in the same room for all nights and there wasn't a price that fit what I wanted. The hotel was in a great location for us and we had a very nice room with a balcony overlooking the ocean. Beyond that it was a typical conference hotel and had some construction occurring inside.

Thanks for the help, all.
