Priceline Hotel: BiddingHelper

I haven't used Priceline since 2010 (unhappy experience but..).  I recalled this Board offering some help and now have found myself looking for a room on short notice.  I do not understand the Bidding.Helper and how it helps me.  It appears to just open the same screen that I reach on the Princeline page.  How can I get some guidance.  I want to make sure I get the best deal on the best hotel possible.  I was looking at the French Quarter and it looks like I should bid around $160 for 4 star hotel.  Am I seeing that correctly?   Prior to 2010 I felt like I had a handle on this but reading other people's post and my bad experience last time I am second guessing this.  Any suggestions where to start?

Thanks!

I want to make sure I get the best deal on the best hotel possible.

This is exactly how the BiddingHelper.com helps you... it allows you to do just one search and see results from PRICELINE EXPRESS, HOTWIRE, and regular retail rates... so that you can better determine an appropriate bid amount and make sure that you don't overbid.

Rates for these dates look high and i don't think that $160 is likely going to be enough for a 4* hotel in the French Quarter zone(s) at this time... you're more likely looking at the low/mid-$200's.

What is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for these dates in this area (using either BiddingHelper.com or our other sister site, MAPS and HOTELS.com)?

What are you currently thinking in terms of a maximum bid?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

I'm a member, not a board official.  I had the same first reaction to Bidding Helper as you did when it just took me to PRICELINE.  Then I poked around a bit and realized I needed to click those other things in that row just below the search info you enter - Hotwire, Hotwire Easy View, Priceline Express, and Hotels by Name - to get to the other places.  The beauty of the application is it lets you bounce back and forth between the different options and compare things, all without reentering your initial request.

There are other changes since 2010.  You can now bid every 2 hours on Price.line, vs the former 24 hours.  PRICELINE EXPRESS is new, very similar to Hotwire in that you can see the amenities before you accept the offer and the pros here can often give you an "educated guess" as to what hotel you are likely to get.

Hope you are able to work something out.  Lots better tools today.  If you return with the added information requested above I'm sure you'll get some good help.
