On HOTWIRE i'm seeing what looks like the Stanford Court San Francisco for $178/nite, the Hotel Zelos for $186/nite, or the The Scarlet Huntington for $188/nite.

I'm seeing this 4 star Union Square West hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) with Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center... my guess would be the Serrano San Francisco.

Are any of the above of interest and work for your plans?

I looked at the PRICELINE EXPRESS and Hot.wire offers and tried to identify the ones that were in (or slightly above) your budget... i didn't research any of the offers that were over your stated budget, so i don't know if the other hotels you mentioned are offered for your dates at a higher price OR if they're even listed at all for your dates.

Some (all?) if the above are very highly rated... is there something in particular that you're looking for from this stay?

I don't see any major name brand chains offered for $200 or less for your dates at this time, but i will add that while i too usually prefer large name brands, there are a lot of excellent smaller/independent/boutique properties in this area and i wouldn't not exclude them simply because they don't have a large corporation behind them. There is something very different in purchasing a 2* rated independent hotel with mediocre reviews vs. a high star rating boutique property with excellent user reviews.

However, you know your needs best and what it is that you want from a hotel for this stay.

You could book a refundable rate at the Warwick San Francisco (confirm your dates on the landing page... i'm assuming this is name brand for you enough??) for $217/nite... then continue to monitor PRICELINE EXPRESS / HOTWIRE to see if anything else that is more 'name brand' is offered in the weeks to come. This gives you a very nice hotel close to your budget with the flexibility of canceling up until a few days before your stay... if something better comes along on PRICELINE EXPRESS / HOTWIRE you can cancel your current reservation, but this also protects you from prices rising from here and/or should nothing better come along.

You can view other cancel-able options in this area using our sister site RefundableRates.com, but i think the Warwick was the best i saw in terms of value.

When bidding on PRICELINE there is no way to target, or avoid, a specific hotel (or only receive one of the major large chains)... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose.

As per above there are hotels that meet your star rating and budget criteria, but there are apparently aspects of each that has you wanting to avoid them... there would be no way to do so if bidding on PRICELINE.

Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way.

Please remember to 'close' this thread with whatever you ultimately decide to do for this stay (even if not PRICELINE / HOTWIRE, you book a regular rate hotel, cancel the trip, etc)

You can also use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com to see if any name brand hotels are available in your desired area within your budget (after your search use the price slider and the star rating filter on the left side of the page to easily see if anything is available)

Good luck!
