Hotwire Hotel: 3* New York City (Midtown East) Midtown East Vacation Rentals

I've have been reading and following this forum for YEARS and finally used it last week.  I put in a 3 night stay for Oct. 8-11 in Midtown East and I was told a 3 star for $206 was available.  I was ecstatic since I had been getting nothing but quotes of $275-$350.  It said the previous person received The Roger Smith Hotel.  I was fine with all the 3star hotels listed in the Hotwire list so I went with it.  Imagine my suprise when I was told I was given an apartment on 44th St under the name of Midtown East Apt Rentals.  My question is... "When did Hotwire start renting out apts.?"  I have never seen these as a "win" before.    Also, I cannot find ANY business in or around NYC that goes by MTE apt rentals.  I HAVE seen some of these apt's for sale on Zillow.  Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks so much!

I'm not familiar with this property and this is the first time i have seen an apartment come up thru HOTWIRE... the location is definitely in Midtown East.

Was the offered listed as a Condo or Apartment prior to the purchase? If you're looking for something different i would give HOTWIRE a call and tell them that you were expecting a hotel and not an apartment.

Let us know if you pursue anything with HOTWIRE OR how it ultimately works out if you stick with this one.

On Saturday morning I contacted Hotwire to dispute the term "hotel'  vs.  "apartment."  My biggest concern was the fact that I thought I was purchasing a hotel which normally has things like an elevator (one of our travelers had recent knee surgery), a place to print out tickets which we will be buying for shows, events and tours.   They apologized and offered a refund or informed me that they will book another hotel (but NOT at the price I was given for this place).  After a lengthy battle of wills I told them to just keep the reservation the way it was. --- Here is an email I just woke up to this morning.  I now feel scammed or at least taken advantage of.  SHAME ON YOU HOTWIRE!

Dear _____,

I am contacting you in regards to itinerary number _________________ at Midtown East Vacation Rentals on October 8, 2015 in New York City, New York.

Hotwire has been notified by the Midtown East Vacation Rentals that the hotel will not be accepting reservations during the period of your scheduled stay.

We recognize that this situation is less than ideal and do our best to work with both customers and hotel partners to reach a satisfactory resolution for all involved. Because of this situation, we are offering you the option to have Hotwire rebook a new hotel for you or offering a full refund for this booking.

Please contact us at 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473) and a Customer Care Associate would be happy to assist with your selected option. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all your travel needs.

Sincerely,

Hotwire Customer Care

They apologized and offered a refund or informed me that they will book another hotel (but NOT at the price I was given for this place).

You're not the first person to try to demand that HOTWIRE offer you a different hotel at the same price, but this is not a reasonable expectation... the best you can really hope for in this type of situation is the offer of a refund.

The scenario changes a bit now that they are the ones who are canceling (as opposed to them giving you the option to cancel), but to argue the matter will still likely be an uphill battle, and it's up to you to decide if it's worth the aggravation or not.

Did they offer you any Hot Dollars (their version of a credit to be used on their website) for the inconvenience?

Thankfully everything worked out for the best.  Hotwire offered to refund the fee's or to rebook another 3 star hotel.  What was nice was I had my choice of areas.  After looking thru the options that were available I chose the UWS and was given The Excelsior.  I'm happy with this choice since I have stayed there before and quite enjoyed it.  The price for this hotel was $305 but Hotwire absorbed the additional amount.  ---Looking forward to Oct.
