Hotwire Hotel: 3* St. Louis (Forest Park - Clayton) Holiday Inn Express St Louis - Central West End

I am trying to book a hotel in St. Louis for Friday Sept 4 - Tuesday Sept 8 for 2 adults and 2 children (4 yr old and 11 month old). I am not familiar with St. Louis so I am definitely open to your suggestions of which zones are best. We'd prefer 3.5* and looking for lowest price possible, maybe around $100?. My first choice is the Forest Park area or downtown. We are planning to spend one day downtown, one day around the botanical garden, and two days around Forest Park. Is there a way to determine if there are additional parking fees for the hotels offered?

I know priceline bidding only guarantees occupancy for 2. Would a hotel have a problem if we told them we had 2 small children?

I tried the priceline express deals and saw offers starting at $91 in Forest Park. Then I unsuccessfully tried to bid, and 15 minutes later the Express Deals price went up to $118. Is that typical? I tried Hotwire and the prices were higher, but maybe that's because I indicated 2 adults and 2 children?

I've never used hotwire or priceline before, so your help is greatly appreciated! We'd be willing to look at 3* hotels if that is what we need to be under $100.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

In terms of parking cost, there is no way to guarantee 100% what hotel you may get, but if you look on PRICELINE EXPRESS or Hot.wire, you can look for a hotel with "free parking" as an amenity. However, I'll guess that most hotels in the downtown area and some nearby areas do charge for parking.

In terms of occupancy, the hotel will probably not have an issue with quad occupancy, but the problem becomes that you may wind up with 1 bed. The hotel may say no problem to two beds or may charge more. It may depend on the day or who you talk to.

PRICELINE EXPRESS (where you can look for a listing with bed choice) or Hot.wire (where you can search for the amount of people in the party which should result in some form of bedding for the entire party) are better choices with a party of four.

A PRICELINE EXPRESS listing going up right after bidding isn't typical, but rates can go up at any time. I'd try again later and see if the listing is back at $91.

With St Louis, I'd recommend some of the outlying areas that are usually cheaper than downtown (and quite nice) such as Chesterfield, but unfortunately outlying areas look similarly expensive for these dates.

Is the risk of 1 bed okay in terms of bidding? Are you seeing any listings with free parking when searching on PRICELINE EXPRESS or Hot.wire (as that's a cost that will likely have to be factored in if you're staying downtown, but if you can find a listing on PRICELINE EXPRESS or Hot.wire w/free parking that's in St Louis probably $15-25 (or more) a night you don't have to pay.

To add to the above...

HOTWIRE defines 'children' and ages 2-17, so you can search HOTWIRE for 2adults/1child which may bring down the costs a little of adding more than double occupancy.

If you're OK with the occupancy risk and/or receiving a room with only one bed, PRICELINE EXPRESS has this 3.5 star Forest Park - Clayton hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $92/nite with:

Business Center

Restaurant

Airport Shuttle

Free Internet

Indoor or Outdoor Pool

Fitness Center

... my best guess for this one would be the Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel, should this be convenient for your needs.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed (or how it goes if you take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer above) and we'll take it from there.

Thank you both for the advice, I really appreciate it!  I will definitely use the links from this site when I book.  I'm assuming this site would get a commission or something on our purchase?

We are ok with one bed as long as that would be allowed by the hotel?

We are thinking of shortening the trip to not spend as much money, and I see the expensive night would be Saturday night, rates are around $50-$70 for Sunday night and Monday night so we are either going to stay either Sept 6-7, 7-8, or 6-8...

Thank you for sharing your result with the board.

Also thank you for the addition for this new property to the BetterBidding Hotwire Hotel List

I believe there may have been more amenities than you listed in your post. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities (including the accessible) that are currently showing in the MY ACCOUNT link for this purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

Wanted to add I booked through the betterbidding HOTWIRE link =)

I called the hotel right away, and the woman I spoke to was very kind and helpful.  She said our room will have two double beds (don't know if that is helpful for others to know?), check in at 3 PM, check out at 11 AM, and that they are very accommodating of an early check in as long as the room has already been cleaned.
