Priceline Hotel: Last Minute Labor Day 3* or above, flexible city location

Hello, we just booked a last minute trip to San Francisco, and have been blown away by the hotel pricing!  Wow!  Motor Inns for 180?

Arrive 9/4 for 2 nights.

Anyways, we would like 3*, preferably 3 1/2* or above.  Will have a car, so flexible on location.  If not in the SOMA, FW, Embarcadero area, prefer to be on Oakland side.  Heading to Napa on the 6th.  If you know of areas with reasonable parking to focus on first, that would be idea.

How should bidding strategy be devised?

Thanks!

Hello - If I could keep it to $150 plus taxes/fees, that would be great, since I have to also likely add 30-40 for parking.  I can stay over in Oakland at a Courtyard for $181 +9 for parking...I have more travel time, but I get Marriott Rewards points if I pay full price.

Thanks

Is San Mateo too far south for your needs?

What about the Airport zone? I see this 3* Airport hotel with Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center... best guess here would be the Aloft San Francisco. While parking is $26/day, you may be able to get cheaper parking separate from the hotel or at the airport (and take the hotel's airport shuttle to/from the hotel), but even at $26/nite, the room rate is $126/nite making this less all-in then your back-up, and the hotel gets good reviews.

Is the Express deal a good indication of what the best possible bid price is for a comparable * within a zone?

Not always, but it's in the "ballpark". You can also look at HOTWIRE to get a feeling for current rates... although PRICELINE and HOTWIRE may not assign the same star rating to a given hotel (when the two services are different, HOTWIRE tends to be a little more generous in their star rating)
