Firm plans for 4 rooms (single occupancy) in New York. 03/31/16 - 04/04/16.  Key is being close to subway and a comfortable bed. Last time got the Sofitel and it was excellent. Can you give some bidding ideas . Happy to pay $270 + tax. Is it just too early or should I pursue a long term bidding strategy.

Do note that there is usually a BIG price jump between 4* and 4.5* hotels in NYC, so make sure that you indeed want to pay more for the extra half a star rating.

For example, PRICELINE EXPRESS has what appears to be the 4* Mansfield Hotel for $123/nite for your dates. The hotel gets very good reviews but may not be of the caliber of some of the 4.5* hotels you're considering... but at the 4.5* level what looks like the Benjamin going for $236/nite or the Intercontinental New York Times Square for $243/nite, are these worth the extra $100+ per nite to you (and to those in your group?)

From the above you can see that there are certainly 4.5* hotels within your budget that meet your needs, but is it worth the extra expense if the 4 star property suits your needs?

Thanks for advice. You are right that there seems a good price gap between 4 and 41/2 star. Our real concern is a comfortable room in a reasonable /good hotel so would consider anything from 4 to 5 star. Also right to suggest good reviews. Noticed a 5 star (Hotwire)in Midtown Central with a massive discount but no reviews. It was $179 with free internet, fitness centre and restaurants. Should you be wary when it has no reviews or could it be new. Do understand we need to refine our requirements before we bid. May have been the Sofitel experience that ended us to higher grade but it was ideal. Any suggestions welcomed.
