So I'm getting started booking my vacation with some friends and am looking to get a 3.5* or higher.

The zones we're most interested in, in order of preference, are the following:

Times Square

Midtown West

Midtown East

Empire State Building Area

MSG Area

Chelsea Area

We're trying to keep it under 200. Any bidding strategy would be helpful!

Thanks in advanced!

Please first provide a follow-up for your prior San Diego Priceline thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the above listing.

Also, are you going to be more than 2 people? If so, I wouldn't recommend bidding in NYC - I'd rather suggest Hot.wire or PRICELINE EXPRESS.

Please remember to follow-up your threads with your results/decisions as you receive them so that the information can best help others in a timely manner.

For your trip above, note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed (a high probability in NYC where space is limited and most hotels have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed and rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade). While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request.

If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)... or PRICELINE EXPRESS where a 'Bed Choice' option is given and one of the bed choice options indicates a room with two beds.

I have had good luck with Priceline express.

I see you have three previous wins reported to the board, none of which are from PRICELINE EXPRESS... it would be appreciated if you started to share all your wins with the board so that others can benefit from the information, just as you have been helped by those who have posted before you. ;)

HOTWIRE allows you to specifically request up to quad occupancy, with PRICELINE EXPRESS you can work the system by finding a room offer that shows a bed choice option and when one of those room choices indicates two beds (although technically your room is still only booked for double occupancy)

All of the board links, the search boxes at the top of the page (the logos within them), and even our BiddingHelper.com too all work from any phone (and our biddinghelper tool is even included in our Win Alerts app for both Android and iOS)

... if a hotel that you're considering was previously purchased by another user OR another user won a hotel for the same dates that you're currently considering, i assume you would want them to post their win regardless of how they booked. ;)

Haha that is definitely true and fair enough! I'm hoping to start travelling more often so hopefully I will definitely be posting more wins! :)

I decided against priceline and am looking at hotwire now.

There's a few I'm currently looking at..

A 3.5* in the MSG-Hell's Kitchen Area with SMoke-Free, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center and Golf Nearby

and

3* Midtown Central with Restaurant, Business Center and Internet Access

Any help IDing them would be great :)

I'm not currently seeing either of these properties offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children? Are your dates sill the same, June 11-15?

Also, please include the room rate per nite in your posts as it makes it easier for us to find the same hotel when replicating your search.

I'm not seeing either property, nor am i seeing anything under $200/nite when searching for 4adults.

If you're seeing seeing these please confirm the full list of amenities associated with each using the following method(s):

1) use the EASY VIEW tab of our BiddingHelper.com and click the green 'See All Amenities' button

OR

2) search HOTWIRE (or use the HOTWIRE tab at BiddingHelper.com) and...

  • click the offer
  • on the next page click the BOOK NOW link
  • in the TRIP SUMMARY box click the 'See more' link at the end of the amenities

For the 3.5* in the MSG-Hell's Kitchen area the list is as follows:

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

As for the 3* in Midtown Central, it is as follow:

FULL AMENITIES: Restaurant(s),  Business center,  Internet access

3* MTC amenities are quite common but have been seen with the Holiday Inn 57th and the Wellington - either would be a possibility. 3.5* MSG would quite likely be the Wyndham New Yorker.

Please let us know what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions.

Still searching around and had a question.

So looking on PRICELINE EXPRESS, I think I've come up with the Hudson in Central Park South. The options for bed are:

per night Room Assigned At Check-in - Sleeps Two Adults
per night Room Assigned At Check-in - Sleeps Two Adults - 1 Bed Requested.

If I chose the first one, what are the chances I could request two beds (Or even one bed and a sofa or something).

You can try to request two beds (not sure if the Hudson even has rooms with two beds, you can see an example room on Youtube, they are tiny) or one + sofa, but the likelihood of getting two beds in NYC via bidding (or in this situation) is minimal. The best choice is either Hot.wire and entering in more than 2 people (even if you are just 2 people, enter 2 adults and 2 children) or look for a PRICELINE EXPRESS listing with bed choice that clearly states two beds.
