How early is too early to seriously start looking at prices? This is my first trip to NYC, I spend most of my travel time in DC and am a bit sticker shocked at the prices I'm encountering. Are they likely to go down? I am particularly interested in 3* and above in SoHo, Tribeca and Chelsea, and am finding an average of $200/night.  Would also consider Willamsburg/Green Point for the right place. This is a 40th birthday trip for my young-at-heart boyfriend. Leaning more boutique than chain but tiny rooms might shift the balance the other way.

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your trip... it all depends how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations. However, with this being a holiday weekend (which tend to offer a little better pricing in NYC), i wouldn't rush at the moment pay $200+ per nite.

You can also use our RateDrop service to monitor the star rating/zones you're interested in and get an email if/when rates drop to the price you want to pay.

I would also consider other areas than those which you're considering... if you've never been to NYC before, why the zones you have listed above? Has your boyfriend been to NYC before? With this being your first trip to NYC i'd recommend you stay directly in NYC, and if the zones above are not within your budget, then consider Midtown/Downtown zones over Williamsburg.

Let us know your thoughts and the information above and we'll take it from there.

I'm open to all areas in Manhattan, but my understanding is that the 'feel' of those areas is more young and fresh than, say, wall street or the upper east side. If I'm paying $200 regardless of zone, then that's going to be a tip factor for me.

I'm not really looking for any specific amenities, though proximity to the subway would be nice. The smallest room I think we can stand is 200 sq feet, we were in 225 last in on a trip to Chicago and I can't go any smaller.

PRICELINE EXPRESS currently has 4 star Chelsea hotel for $196/nite... my guess is that this is the Wyndham Garden Hotel Manhattan Chelsea West.

There is also this 3 Star Lower East Side hotel for $138/nite (my guess here would be the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel)

On HOTWIRE I also see what looks like the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side for $175/nite and the 4* Hilton Fashion District (Chelsea zone) for $183/nite.

Of the above i think the Hilton Fashion District would be your best value... are any of these of interest?

Listed as 58% off a rack rate of $298, but it is actually liste d on hotels.com at $209 for those dates. Amenities: pet friendly, restaurant, fitness center, business center, internet access. 80% rating. I was hoping for the Hilton or crown plaza with that rack rate but I am still pleased with the result.

Sorry to hear that the result was not what you expected, but glad you are satisfied with the win.

Hot.wire's "regular rate" is not the rate of the underlying hotel, it is an average of comparable hotels in the area for these dates.

I believe there were likely more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

For future searches/bookings you can do the following to ensure you're seeing the complete list:
1) use the EASY VIEW tab of our BiddingHelper.com and click the green 'See All Amenities' button
OR
2) search HOTWIRE (or use the HOTWIRE tab at BiddingHelper.com) and...

  • click the offer
  • on the next page click the BOOK NOW link
  • in the TRIP SUMMARY box click the 'See more' link at the end of the amenities

If you could confirm the full list of amenities showing under the trip information in your Hot.wire account (click "My Account" in the upper corner of Hot.wire.) it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.
