Hi Everyone,

My $95 bid for National Harbor was just rejected, and I need to stay in the same zone (National Harbor).  I've read two different things on rebidding wait period on your forum - one post says the wait is 24 hrs, but another post says 72 hrs.  And Priceline doesn't indicate either one..all it says was I needed to change my criteria to rebid. Is is 24 hours or 72 hours?  Your help is greatly appreciated!!

It is 24 hours now.  But it never hurts to allow an extra minute or two just to be on the safe side.  If you try to bid again within the 24 hour period, Priceline sets the clock all over again, and you have to wait another 24 hours from the new last bid.

However, depending upon which star level you are bidding, you may have available some "free rebid" zones that would let you continue bidding within the 24 hour period.  If you aren't familiar with the concept, CLICK HERE.  If it still doesn't make sense, please post back for some step by step instructions.

Actually, i received an email last week that this has now been changed to 2 hours.

I think the intention is for this to be a permanent change, but i'm sure they will monitor this and it's subject to change again in the future.

If you reply to this thread with the dates of your stay, as well as the rest of your details/goal for this trip (desired star rating, budget, zone(s), etc) we will move this thread to the Priceline Washington DC section of the board and provide a suggested bidding strategy to follow.

Thanks for the help about the waiting period.  I'm looking to travel to National Harbor, MD March 29 to April 1, 2015.  Yesterday, Hotwire had a rate of $120....wish I had moved on it, because now that option/price is no longer listed!  After reading your description of amenities, I really think it was the Westin.

Now all I have left is to bid on Priceline.  Looking for a 3* and up in National Harbor - I have to stick with the National Harbor zone.  Yesterday I bid $85 - $100, and was rejected each time.

What advice do you have at this point for a first time bidder?  Does Hotwire ever "relist" hotels they offered?

Thanks!

Typically HOTWIRE shows only one hotel at each star rating per zone. If no hotel is currently showing at this star rating in the zone, then they have no inventory at that star rating in this zone. If the offer has gone up in price, then the previous offer was likely sold/pulled and won't return unless/until the hotel gives more discounted inventory to HOTWIRE.

What is your maximum bid for a 3* or higher rated hotel in this zone? Were your previous bids up to $100 at the 3 star level?

At the moment i'm seeing very little 3* and higher availability... currently this may be a very difficult win, and could take in excess of $200/nite.

Where exactly within the zone do you need to be?

When watching other cities, I've seen Hot.wire rates come and go fairly frequently.  Or change.  One city even had a clear pattern of a few dollar hike every weekend.

You've got almost a month yet.  You could make a refundable rate back-up reservation and then just work with your bidding and keep an eye on Hot.wire for a while.

I went on Hotwire this morning, and they had the 4* National Harbor (DC) listed for $118 (I knew it was probably the Westin).  I quickly entered in my info and success!!!  After feeling like I wouldn't be able to get a room at all in that zone for under $200, I got it closer to $100 end - I'm doing a dance at my desk right now.  Especially considering rates for my dates at the Westin are running $301/night and many of the other hotels there are already booked or over $350/night.

Thanks soooo much for your help.  I'm so glad I found your website! :D
