Hi

I'm just getting started with this but I'm trying to find 7 nights stay in the Midtown, Chelsea, Midtown South, Greenwich Village, Chelsea area, we wanted to try and pay no more then £150 inc Taxes per night but is this to much should I start lower otherwise I'm just over bidding for the same hotel ? or does bidding higher mean you will get a better hotel ?

Idearly the Hotel would have a gym ( with some real weights ) not just a running machine, I'd love a great view out the window but I guess you can't specify such things ? I've been looking at full price sites for Hotels like Inc 48, Morgans, Envinta which look quite nice but if I could get them for alot less that would be great

We would love some cool cheap eateries that sell lots of meat right outside our door for breakfast and a safe student type area not to posh either any help much appreciated :)

Welcome to Betterbidding and Congrats on your honeymoon! :)

A week-long stay may an issue in terms of getting a deal in NYC, depending on the dates. Additionally, you cannot specify a particular property or the details of the fitness center.

Please provide the date/s of travel and we would be happy to offer our thoughts.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

----Just to keep a note in this thread for reference, $150GBP is currently around $230USD.

I'm seeing a 4* on HOTWIRE in the Empire State Building area for $180USD which (after taxes/fees and the translation to GBP) comes out mildly under your desired max budget per night. The amenities showing are: Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Pet Friendly.

This would be a possible match for the St Giles the Court (which was formerly a W property before being bought by St Giles.) There is use of the fitness center at the St Giles Tuscany (which was also previously a W property), which is a couple of doors down. This listing could also be a possible match for the Carlton, which has a new fitness center, according to the website.

One cheaper 4* I'm seeing in Midtown on HOTWIRE is a 4* in Midtown Central for $167 w/Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible. This would be a possible match for the Park Central. I'm also seeing what may be the Hotel Indigo Chelsea, but for slightly over budget ($238USD after taxes/fees per night.)

Lastly, I'm seeing what appears to be the OneUN for $171, but while that hotel gets good reviews (and you may get a view, given where it is), the issue is that it is somewhat out of the way at the far E border of Midtown East. Still, if you are looking for fitness, it appears to give access to significant facilities.

Would any of these possibilities be of interest?

If these are not of interest, we could also take a look at PRICELINE EXPRESS (although it's sometimes more difficult to pinpoint a particular hotel given that not as much information is given as there is on HOTWIRE) or PRICELINE bidding, although while bidding would be cheaper it does require more flexibility. If you bid, you select a star rating and zone and have to be willing to accept any hotel at that star rating in that zone.

Let us know your thoughts on the above and then we can offer further suggestions.

Also, the HOTWIRE prices that I note above may vary slightly compared to what you are seeing when searching.

Thanks I'm  slowly getting the hang of this and using Hot.wire some of those deals look great...but do you think it might be better to only pick 5 star hotels that way they would be immaculate or am I unlikely to find anything at my price ?

I quite like the idea of bidding but as you say it's alot more pot luck and is there no way to specify fitness centre when bidding ? would you say hotwire is better then PRICELINE as the prices that you mentioned seem better ? I'm trying Hotwire again now and trying to compare to the list on this forum of which hotels they might be...is that list upto date ?

thanks again :)

Your bidding price (before taxes/fees) is about $200/nite and that will not likely be enough for a 5* hotel this time of year.... and only a small chance at a 4.5* property.

For a 4.5* hotel you would likely need to bid in the $215-$235 area... for a 5* in the $250-$270 area (both depending upon zones you ultimately decide upon)

Whether PRICELINE or HOTWIRE is 'better' depends upon your goal for the trip and what is important to you... bidding on PRICELINE is usually the least expensive, but HOTWIRE let's you know a little more about the hotel and the opportunity to take a guess as to which property it may be before your purchase; so it's a trade-off between the best price vs. knowing a little more about the property that you may receive.

To add another point of reference, depending upon zone(s), you may able to get a 4* hotel as low as $145/nite for these dates.

As noted above, 4.5*/5* unfortunately do appear more expensive for these dates. However, there are a lot of nice 4*'s in NYC. While this is a special occasion so it may be different, I think my philosophy with NYC if I were going there tomorrow would be to get something that is nice, but I don't want to spend a lot for amenities (say, at a 4.5/5*) that I'm not going to use. There's so much in NYC - so many sights, so many restaurants, so many shops large and small - that the question kind of becomes how much time are you spending in the hotel? If you save money on hotel, that's a nice dinner or many other things.

The lists on the board show what has been reported to the board so far. New hotels or other changes happen all the time.

You cannot specify fitness when bidding unless it pops up as a "guaranteed amenity", noted when you select a particular zone and star rating. In terms of PRICELINE EXPRESS, you can look for a listing with fitness, but again, a fair amount of PRICELINE EXPRESS listings offer amenities that are common to a lot of hotels in the zone, so it's sometimes difficult to narrow down what it may be.

I'm sure there are lots of other venues, but CLICK HERE for a list of one person's top 10 NY food trucks.

They probably won't be right outside your door, but I think worth hunting down.  And you also might find yourself in an interesting area.  At least some of the trucks might be in a student type area?
