Priceline Hotel: Onsite Universal Orlando 4/6/15 and 4/8/15 1 night each

Hello ,

I am looking to book one of the 3 deluxe onsite hotels at Universal Orlando.  I am only interested in the Portifino, Royal Pacific, or Hard Rock.

I have found a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for $348 that seems to be one of them due to the amenities and the room categories.  I am also traveling with 5 people.  Could you please provide a strategy for NYOP for these hotels.  I understand that it is not guaranteed but in your experience, if you select universal resort and 4 stars are these the hotels that come up?  Also what price would you start at?  I would be thrilled @ 300 but would not want to be in any other hotel.  Thank you in advance

I have replied again on the other thread.

See the thread.

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. You can see all hotels reported to the board in the Priceline Hotel List (be mindful of the comments at the top of the page)

Also note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room that can accommodate 5 people, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (especially since 'standard' rooms don't typically accommodate 5 guests)... or were you intending to get more than one room?

Actually, we are not intending to even stay in the room.  I am making the reservation to obtain the express passes only.  As far as I know all Universal deluxe resorts have an occupancy of 5.    Since it is a holiday week, hotels are very expensive.  We have a townhouse for the entire week reserved.

You are of course free to play this however you'd like, and while you may choose to move forward and everything works out just fine, i think there are too many things that can go wrong and you're taking a bit a risk of here for not much reward (although admittedly i'm not an expert on Universal Express passes)...

1) you could receive a non-Universal resort, thereby making the entire expense a waste

2) while Universal properties may be able to accommodate 5 people (i don't know if they do or don't), PRICELINE reservations are only guaranteed for double occupancy, and the hotel could charge more for additional guests (especially if there are perks involved). Again, the theme parks are not my field of expertise, but it would at least be conceivable (in my mind) that the hotel only wants to give you two express passes (based upon the double occupancy) and want to charge you more for any additional guests/passes needed.

Even if you are successful at $300 you're looking at $350 all-in after taxes/fees... whereas i think (from what quick research i just did online) you can buy the Express Pass as an add-on to your theme park ticket for $90/tix for your dates ($450 all-in).

So it comes down to whether the potential of $100/day savings (which comes down to $20 per person savings... less if it takes more than $300 to win a hotel for your dates) are worth the risks of having the entire plan backfire and spending $350 for a room you have not use for (or receive no park benefits from) OR if you have to pay extra at check-in in order to get the full number of passes you need (which i'm assuming will ultimately likely cost you much more in the end)

While it all could potentially work out just fine, it's not a risk/reward scenario that i would be willing to take (as well as factoring in the time to stop at the hotel each day to officially check-in)... but then again maybe a one nite stay gives you express passes for two days which would put the risk/reward more in your favor, but even then, it depends on how much risk you're willing to accept.
