Hi All,

Scottish newbie here looking for some help / advice.

My wife and I are coming over to Toronto in June and had hoped to stay In a hotel with views of the Niagara Falls. We would like to stay Sat 27/06 - Mon 29/06 and am new to this Priceline / Hotwire stuff. I have looked at prices of hotels online Expedia etc but cheapest I could find was $175 a night. Can anyone recommend any bidding prices or hotels to look out for to try and get the price down as everyone knows us scots are tight with our cash :)

Sorry if this has been posted in the wrong area or is a repost

Welcome to BetterBidding!

To begin, unless otherwise noted, PRICELINE and HOTWIRE reservations are for 'standard' hotel rooms, so a room with a view of the falls would not be guaranteed (and in all likelihood would be considered an 'upgrade'). Sometimes you can get an upgraded room just by asking, sometimes for an additional fee, and sometimes not at all (either because the hotel is full and doesn't have that room type available or sometimes simply due to hotel policy). As well, your Saturday check-in won't necessarily help you in this area since hotels try to book complete weekend stays (since if they sell a room for Saturday check-in it can become more difficult for them to fulfill a guest who is coming to this area for the entire weekend, as is often the case in tourist locations such as this one)

If you're willing to forgo the assurance of a room with a view of the falls, i'm seeing what i believe to be the following (to give you an idea of rooms costs thru the 'opaque' services)

The Tower Hotel at Fallsview for $117/nite

Skyline Inn for $88/nite

If you decide that PRICELINE / HOTWIRE don't work for your needs this trip and that you need a specific room type, please use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com which has an excellent interface that will make it easy to evaluate your different hotel/star rating options and how much more/less it would cost to go up/down in star rating OR to stay closer/further from your ideal location.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we can take it from there.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply and useful information. The tower hotel looks nice and seems to get good reviews.

We would ideally like a room with a view of the falls even for one night but like you say we can try asking for this upon arrival. The cost is the most important thing for us so your pricing is helpful.

Like I say I'm not an expert and navigating around Priceline. Can you recommend any hotels that may have a casino or that you know represents value for money?

If staying Friday-Monday would widen the choices I could also consider this.

Thanks again and hopefully I can get something sorted with your help

In terms of a casino, Hot.wire is showing one listing with casino for $78 in the Niagara Falls, NY area.

3.5* $78 Casino, Pool, Indoor Pool, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Free Parking

- This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'd guess the Seneca Niagara Hotel and Casino would be a possibility.

I'm also seeing a 3.5* in the Niagara Falls, Ontario area for $117 w/ Restaurant, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Golf, Tennis, Wheelchair Accessible

- This would be a possible match for the Tower.

Rates look pretty similar when searching for Fri-Mon vs Sat-Mon or Thur-Sun.

I do think that you have some time, although I'd keep an eye on rates - you can use our RateDrop.com service to keep track of Hot.wire, PRICELINE EXPRESS and regular rates.

Please keep us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

If bidding on PRICELINE there is no way to target/avoid a specific hotel OR a hotel that has certain amenities (like a casino)... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you bid.

If you are looking for a hotel with certain amenities, then PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE would be a better, although slightly more expensive, option.

If staying Friday-Monday would widen the choices I could also consider this.

If you could travel Sunday-Tuesday i think it would help your budget. What looks to be The Tower Hotel at Fallsview drops to $72/nite if staying Sun-Tues.

Let us know your thoughts/questions and we'll move forward from here.

If you're not on the US version of HOTWIRE, please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOT.WIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOT.WIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.

After making the above changes, close your browser and repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool for Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Jun 28-30, 2adults/0children.

In the EASY VIEW do you see a 3.5* in the Niagara Falls hotel for ~$72/nite (your price may differ by a few dollars one way or the other) with:

Free Internet

Smoke Free

Restaurant

Hi-Speed Internet

Golf

Tennis

Wheelchair Accessible

... best guess for this property would be the The Tower Hotel at Fallsview.

I did as you said and found a hotel at 3.5* for $70.00 a night with the following amenities listed - FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Restaurant(s), Internet access, Golf nearby, Tennis nearby, Wheelchair accessible

So I am guessing this is the same as what you suggested and when you click it, it says the last person got the tower hotel. Do you think it is worth trying priceline to see if I can get it even cheaper or do would you say $70 per night was a good price?

The reviews of The Tower are a bit better, and if you look at how the building is configured, i think you would have a better chance of getting some time of view (although nothing is guaranteed)... given that what is believed to be The Tower is the cheaper of the two, that would be the one i would go for given the current situation.
