Hi All,

I'm new to bidding and after many hours of research I went to priceline and tried to bid this area. I was rejected after a max bid of $120. I thought it was fine since I am traveling off-peak. Is it because my bid was too low or am I looking at the wrong time? I've seen winning bids for travel dates in two weeks. Should I up my bid or just try again in a few days?

Also, I'm not sure, but this area is advertising high rates for my dates. I've seen an average of $300-$400. I find this odd because I booked 10 days before my trip last year in February on Hot.wire and got Parc55 for $159 nightly..and it was a standard deal. Are my dates in January still considered the holidays?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Rates are date specific and can vary greatly from one date to the next (as well as year-over-year).

There is an Auto Dealers Association convention taking place over your dates and i suspect that is the reason for the higher than usual rates (and the reason why you will need a higher than usual bid to get accepted)

Is USW the only zone you're willing to accept for this stay? Using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best 'regular rate' deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel.

You can also sign up for alerts from our sister site RateDrop where you can choose the criteria for your trip (dates, star rating, zone, etc... as well as 'named' hotels) and receive an email should any hotels meeting your parameters drop to within your buy price.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Thank you for the response! I knew there was something funky going on because there was availability on Tuesday then Wednesday it just escalated. USW is preferred, but I am willing to do USE and FIN/EMB maybe even Nob hill area. I'd just like to be centrally located. I called Parc55 to see what was going on, the reservation specialist didn't know about the convention you mentioned but advised me to check daily as things change all the time.

I'm hoping space becomes availabie at a 4* in those areas and the hotels drop rates as I get closer to my travel dates. Makes this type of game a bit risky though because I may end up SOL. First time doing something like this, I hope I get lucky!

Sign up for alerts with RateDrop... then make a refundable reservation using our sister site RefundableRates.com (this way you have something reserved that you can cancel should something become available thru PRICELINE / HOTWIRE) :)
