thais fernandes
I'm traveling to San Francisco with my husband in February. At first I decided to stay in Union Square area (I suppose US East - Nob Hill is the best place) . But now I am more concerned about my budget since US$ exchange rate is getting higher. My son stayed in a hotel in Fisherman's Warf area and recommend it, but I would like to hear from people who know SF better.Should I bid in Fisherman's Warf? I think I can get better price there than in US area. What about restaurants and transportation there? Thanks for your help. Thais Link to comment
AaronJB
Union Square (E or W), Fisherman's Wharf and the Financial District are the core areas most often bid on. FW is a nice area, but a fair amount of the time it does seem more expensive. What are your desired date/s of travel and budget per night? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
thais fernandes
2/3 to 2/9/2015. I would be really happy with a rate of less than US$100.00. The reservation I've made through booking.com has a rate of US$ 139.00 (Beresford Arms),and it includes breakfast. It's a good rate, but I would like to make it better, if it's possible. I've seen (here, in betterbidding.com) someone getting Hyatt (without breakfast) in FW for US$ 88.00 - that seems great. I didn't know I could also try Financial District. I thought it wouldn't be a great place at night (I don't go to pubs and or things like that, but I need restaurants - even McDonald's! - around). So I will check it too. Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
You can use our new site RefundableRates.com to easily find refundable rates to use for your back-up hotel... i'd check there now to see if there is anything better located and/or priced than your current reservation. What is your minimum star rating for this stay? Is USE, USW, Financial, and/or Fisherman's Wharf all acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. thais fernandes
Actually, I don't mind it I get a lower star rating as long the hotel is a good one. I usually choose more than 3* when I bid just because I'm afraid of what will come. But if the hotel is known and it's good, no problem in taking even a 2.5*. I'm opened to many locations as long as they're near the important sights or public transportation and restaurants. I'll check your suggestion of RefundableRates.com as well - but I guess I will get something from my bidding this weekend. Thanks! Link to comment

But if the hotel is known and it's good, no problem in taking even a 2.5*.When bidding on PRICELINE you don't know the hotel you will receive, nor is there any way to target only the 'good' ones, so it it best to stick with the higher star ratings whenever possible. Let's start with your preferred zones (USE, USW, Financial, Fishermans Wharf) for a 3* hotel up to $100 and we'll see what happens and take it from there. When bidding 3* in San Francisco you have ONE re-bid zones. Romelle
... but I need restaurants - even McDonald's! - around). There is an absolutely wonderful feature for getting this sort of information. It takes a few steps to get to it, but well worth the effort. Up in the header you will see Tool Box. Click it and select "Maps and Hotels" (or a direct link MAPS and HOTELS.com). In Maps and Hotels put something like "san francisco union square" and select "1" for hotels within one mile. You also have to put in dates, although for what we are doing they don't have to be your specific dates. When the list of hotels pops up on the left hand side, click there on the name of one of the hotels. In the middle of the map will pop up a rectangle with a bit more information about that hotel, but also "SEE NEARBY Restaurants, Coffee, Bars, etc." Click on this and you will see a list of choices. Click on Restaurants and see what is in the area of the particular hotel. The rest of the information can be useful also, and the "Walk Score" is a wonderful summary of how an area will work for one on foot. Isolated hotels have really low numbers, and those with lots of stuff very accessible on foot have very high numbers. If you do put in your particular dates, you will also see the rates of all the hotels in an area on those dates. You usually can do better bidding or via Hot.wire or PRICELINE EXPRESS, but knowing the rate ceiling/worst case is useful information. Romelle Link to comment
thais fernandes
Thanks Romelle and Thereuare!I will bid once more. But as far I can see, SFO is a very expensive city and my booking.com reservation is a very good option and I think I may keep it. Beresford Arms for US$ 139.00, including breakfast and internet. It`s a reasonable hotel in a very good location. If I am supposed to get a hotel without free internet and breakfast, the price should be much lower or the hotel must be a 4* or 5*, what seems impossible in SFO, especially because my stay is long (6 days) and I`m not willing to split it. I tried the support page hotels links but I could not find anything better. I will let you know. Link to comment
