Looking at a 5* hotel

Downtown - Canada Place - Convention Center - Coal Harbour area

Only differentator I see is that it has 90% recommended.

I believe that limits it to either the Pan Pacific or the Four Seasons because the other 3 5* in that zone (Shangri-La, Sutton Place, and Fairmont Pacific Rim) are 85% recommended while Pan and Four are 90%.

Your thoughts and assessments appreciated.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Not sure where you are getting the 85% and 90% recommendation figures that you're referencing, but be aware that this figure is HOTWIRE specific and can't be compared to the recommendation percent that may appear on other sites.

Please reply with the dates of your stay, the room rate per nite, and the full amenity set of amenities that HOTWIRE associates with this property and we will have a look at this offer.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

5*

The recommendation %s were direct from Hotwire.

Room Rate $254 currently on secret hotel list.

Amenities

    Resort
    Pet friendly
    Fitness center
    Pool(s)
    Restaurant(s)
    Business center
    Internet access
    Spa services

Those amenities, however, do not differentiate the hotels in this zone, rating.

Thanks

Where are you seeing the percent recommendation for these named hotels... or this from your personal knowledge/experience of hotels in the area?

For this offer, I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for the 5 star hotel in this zone when searching for your dates:

Resort

Pet Friendly

Fitness

Pool

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Spa

Deaf Accessible

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Handicapped Parking

... if this is what you're seeing, the Pan Pacific would be my best guess for this one.

Thanks for your assistance Thereuare.

The percent recommended I am seeing both on Hotwire's site and on the biddinghelper site (with the percent and the thumbs up icon). The percent recommended is not viewable on the Easy View.

From the Easy View

FULL AMENITIES: Resort, Pet friendly, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Spa services, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking

Thanks

So you are saying:

Shargri-La: 85% recommended

Sutton Place: 85% recommended

Fairmont: 85% recommended

Pan Pacific: 90% recommended

Four Seasons: 90% recommended

==> where are you seeing this percent recommendation associated with each of these named hotels??

From the Easy View

FULL AMENITIES: Resort, Pet friendly, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Spa services, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking

This is the same amenity set that i posted above, so my guess would remain the Pan Pacific.

I see the percent recommended on:

  • Hotwire's main site.
    • For Secret Rate hotels, it's listed in-line with the listings and on the detail pages
    • For Standard Rate hotels, it's listed on the detail pages only
  • On the BiddingHelper site you list, it is not listed on the Easy View Hotwire but it is on the plain Hotwire tab.

I hope this answers your question.

The percent recommended is the main differentiator I see.

I think it's the Pan because the Four Seasons shows a Roll In Shower. Shangri-La has Roll-in Shower. Pan, Four Seasons, and Shangri-La are 90% recommended on Hotwire Standard Rate Hotels listing.

My concern now is that Shangri-La has just moved up to 90% recommended, making the only difference between it and the Pan being the Roll In Shower.

No need to use Hotwire and get the Shangri-La. Rate almost identical. Only worth it for the Pan.

Thanks for your help.

For the percent recommended in the 'named' hotel section, are you seeing this figure under the "Same star rating nearby for way less" (and a different rate than that listed above it??)

When you click the detail listing of a 'retail' listing (where the name is shown before purchase) HOTWIRE tries to cross-market their 'opaque' listings by offering a hidden named hotel in the same zone for less than the price of the current retail listings. In this area they do show the percent recommendation, but this applies to the cross-marketed opaque listing, not to the retail listing that you clicked.

... is this the percent recommendation that you're referencing? (or does the one you are seeing in reference to the actual retail listing clicked??)
