johnmlynch
There is a stop in Atlanta on each leg. For the past few weeks I had been bidding $140 and waiting the 2 days and rebidding the same amount with no luck. Then decided to rebid more frequently using the bidding on Airfare tips, but did not have the patience to increment at only $1 at a time due to having to enter the information on 5 passengers each time. I started over from PRICELINE links on this site each time I bid $150, $160, $169, and finally was accepted at $178 on Delta. Flight Ticket Cost $178.00 /ticket Taxes And Fees $35.35 /ticket Number of Tickets 5 Link to comment
thereuare
Congratulations on your success! Airfare wins have been harder to come by over the last few years (as capacity is down and there are fewer and fewer empty seats on planes) so great to see you were successful for this trip. How are the flight times and/or connections? Thank you for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding and sharing your win. Have a great trip! davelee53
The flights bidding obviously won't work if you are trying to bid like months ahead of your travel. I just ran your travel dates on kayak and the best price is $202 (including taxes/fees), and the return trip is even a non-stop flight. Your total costs are sure higher than direct purchase price. What was the lowest published price on 12/17? Your offer shouldn't be higher than 20% or 30% of the published price. Link to comment
johnmlynch
Thanks for the advice and additional research, Davelee53. I am very familiar with using PRICELINE for hotels and car rentals but never tried bidding for airfare before. I am not too familiar with Kayak. To answer your question, I had checked Expedia offerings first and remembered most of the choices were in the mid 200's and 300's. There was 1 in the high 100's that I missed because I took too long to act upon it and that's when I decided to Name Own Price on Priceline. I will keep Kayak in mind for the next time I am taking a trip. Link to comment
