I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for the 2 star hotel in this zone when searching for your dates:

Complimentary Breakfast

Free Internet

Pool

Laundry

Hi-Speed Internet

Handicapped Parking

... if this is what you're seeing, Uncle Billy's Kona Bay would be my best guess for this one.

thanks

when i proceed with booking the site mentions that the last person who booked got the kona seaside hotel. I would prefer to get that one instead however you mentioned it could be Uncle Billy's. Looking at reviews it doesn't see to be the best place to stay. Any other way I can get a better idea of which hotel it will be?

The "Last person got ___" information provided by HOTWIRE is relative to the last purchase of a hotel at this star rating in the zone, NOT necessarily the specific hotel currently offered, so you can't use this information to try and guess the current hotel offered.

I'm fairly confident that this one is not the Kona Seaside hotel.

If you're looking for something nice i would look for a higher rated hotel... what is your maximum budget per nite (before fees/taxes) for this stay?

Uncle Billy's is currently 1* rated by PRICELINE... if you're somewhat flexible why not bid on PRICELINE for a 2* (or 2.5*/3*) property which would then give you the potential for something a little nicer? (based upon PRICELINE's star rating classification system)

While $85(US) may be difficult, i do think you have a chance at a 3* hotel around the $100 area.

If you'd like to try bidding for this stay let us know which star rating you'd like to try for first, all zones that are acceptable, and your maximum bid... we'll advise accordingly.

When bidding 3* in the Hawaii region you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Kona...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100

Any questions (especially confirming your re-bid zones if you're new to the subject) feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yes, any resort fees are extra and would be payable directly to the hotel, just like any other guest who purchased thru a traditional booking channel.

Is there any way to avoid resort fees? Or at least know if i will be charged.

Not when bidding on PRICELINE... but HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS usually show any resort fee before the purchase (i'd guesstimate that they show a resort fee when there is one better than 97% of the time), so you can use either of these services if you're more comfortable doing so. However, even if a resort fee is not shown, and the hotel ultimately does have one, then you're still responsible for paying it.

...which zone should i choose to bid again at $100? If i bid $95 the 2nd time and get rejected do i have to wait 24hrs?

Please see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board. It is important that you understand how to check your re-bid zones on your own since they can change at any time and therefore need to be checked before you begin each bidding cycle. If your 2nd bid is rejected you will need to wait 24 hours before you can bid again.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed (if you prefer to use PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE dues to the resort fee) OR confirm your re-bid zones if you'd like to move forward by bidding on PRICELINE.

No... re-bidding has nothing to do with the proximity of the zone.

If you've already read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and are still confused try the following:

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter your city and dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

Ok

So i want to stay in Kona. Highest rating is 4-Star Deluxe. But I am willing to go 3 star and first bid at $90

There are 3 other available zones.

Hilo highest is 3 stars

Volcano highest is 2 stars

Waikoloa highest is 4.5 stars

So if I understand this correctly. I first bid Kona for $90.

If rejected, I add volcano (since highest is only 2 stars), and I bid $100. Is this correct?

Am I guaranteed I won't get a place in Volcano, since that is far from where I want to stay

Also, if i get matched with Royal Kona Resort, is there a way to find out if they have resort fees?

thx

Correct.

Never any 'guarantees', but of the tens of thousands of wins reported to the board, i know of only one instance where there was ever any issue... so very slim chances of something going wrong (as long as you check your re-bid zone each time before bidding), but you need to be comfortable with any bidding strategies you choose to use. I'm fairly conservative and have no issue utilizing such a strategy, but if you have concerns, you could simply make the two bids over a two day period (waiting at least 24 hours from one bid to the next)

Also, if i get matched with Royal Kona Resort, is there a way to find out if they have resort fees?

I'm not aware of any mandatory fees at this property... although i do know there is a $10/nite charge for parking (if you have a car) and $10 for internet (if you need it)

Difficult to have too much confidence in any guess with only these two common amenities showing, but the Royal Kona Resort would be my guess for this one.
