Hi

I will be ending my US trip in NJ, arriving from Washington on April 5th and leaving on April 7th. I would need 4 rooms.

I would need to know which area is the best for me. I would be arriving on April 5th at 1pm to New Jersey by train and plan to go to the outlets for shopping, then on April 6th spend the whole day in Six Flags, and on April 7th go to the outlets to do some shopping and leave to JFK at around 3pm.

Which area should I stay in? I am aiming a 4 stars hotel. Any particular hotel to recommend for this?

Many thanks!

Cheers,

Yoel

Do you already have a train station in mind that you'll be arriving at or is this open/flexible?

... and plan to go to the outlets for shopping...

Which outlets?

... then on April 6th spend the whole day in Six Flags...

Will you be renting a car during this leg of your trip? If not, how do you plan to get to the outlets, Six Flags (Great Adventure), and to the next round of outlets?

... and on April 7th go to the outlets to do some shopping and leave to JFK at around 3pm.

Which outlets?

Hi,

So to answer your questions:

My train from Washington to Newark is flexible as I did not book it. I was looking to take 164 Northeast Regional arriving 12:29 pm to Newark train station.

I was thinking of going to Jersey Gardens or Woodbury Commons. Maybe go to one the first day and to the other one the last day before going to JFK airport to catch my plane back home. What's your opinion on these outlets?

I was thinking of hiring a minivan for this, although 5 suitcases per the description of most of them might not be enough and I might need a full size van.

Same as before, I believe Jersey Gardens and Woodbury Commons are the best outlets so I might go to one upon my arrival and one before I leave. I guess this would depend on where I am staying.

Many thanks for your help, I know I am asking too many questions in NY. This would be my final destination of the trip, but after I book this two I would also need some help for Boston and Washington!

Cheers,

Yoel

You are covering a LOT of ground in these three short days and i think not only would you be exhausted by the end of the 3 days (so much so it may not be enjoyable anymore given how tired you are) but my thoughts:

1) all outlets can be 'hit or miss'... sometimes you go not needing anything and come home with tons of bags because the deals are so good; other times you need a lot of stuff and come home within nothing as you simply didn't find anything that you liked (either style or cost)

2) Jersey Gardens is the more convenient of the two, but i think Woodbury is the better/larger and i more often find better deals

3) logistically this is very tough because you are looking to cover too much in the short period of time, imo. (not sure how long you're in DC for but it may be better to leave there one day early... or if shopping is important to you try to do Woodbury Commons on one of your days in NYC on the other leg of your trip) as i think Woodbury Commons will be a 'challenge' during these 3 days due to:

  • if you attempt on day of your arrival, a 12:30pm arrival into Newark and you're about 75+ minutes from Woodbury commons. By the time you rent a car/van, check-in to the hotel, gather everyone in your group, etc, etc. you won't be up to Woodbury until 3pm. Do-able on paper, but i just wonder just how 'excited' everyone will be given the busy/hectic schedule.
  • too risky first heading here on the day of your departure as you need to leave a LOT of time to get to JFK as you just never know what traffic will be like.
  • if you decide to go to Woodbury during the NYC portion of your visit, there is a (paid) shuttle that goes from Port Authority in Manhattan to Woodbury commons
  • keep in mind that Woodbury Commons is an outdoor mall, so a cold or rainy day and lessen the experience/enjoyment
Let's start with your itinerary thoughts above in regards to only doing one outlet for this leg of your trip (and/or including Woodbury during your Manhattan visit) and we will take it from there.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thank you for closing this thread with your decision.

As i'm so familiar with this area, i'm curious as to what you did ultimately decide to do for this leg of your trip.

Did you use PRICELINE / HOTWIRE for this stay OR choose to book thru a source where the hotel name is shown beforehand?
