Hotwire Hotel: 4* Orlando (Lake Buena Vista - Downtown Disney) Caribe Royale Resorts Suites and Villas

I am looking for a decent hotel, BEST VALUE, in Orlando for 12/31 thru 1/7.  The last time I won a hotel there it was the Rosen Shingle Creek for $68.   It was great, but now I'm looking for an even better value (I had to pay for parking last time around, dont like that).

Will be headed to the local theme parks -- any suggestions???  I'm getting dizzy!

Assuming this was within the last 4+ years since joining the board, please begin to share your wins so that others can benefit from the information, just as you are seeking help from those who have posted before you.

Please start by following-up your previous Hotwire Philadelphia thread with whatever you ended up doing for that trip, then reply here and we will have a look at your post above.

For Orlando, what is your desired star rating and maximum budget per nite for this stay?

It looks like the best deals are available as the dates get nearer and hotels identify the amount of stock left over they wish to offload.  I experimented by entering in reservations for next week vs. my scheduled dates and saw a significant difference in price for some, and additional options available that I didnt see for my dates. What I will do is place a cancellable backup reservation right now and keep checking whats on Hotwire.  If anyone sees anything - please let me know.

Not necessarily true... what if the hotel underestimates the demand for a given set of dates and far in advance thinks that they will have excess rooms available and deeply discounts them... but as the dates draw closer sees that they have more booking than expected; in this scenario it would have been better to book in advance.

I experimented by entering in reservations for next week vs. my scheduled dates and saw a significant difference in price for some, and additional options available that I didnt see for my dates.

An additional scenario to the above is that your dates of travel are busier than nearer term dates, so naturally rates would be higher for your dates than your nearer term searches. I would assume that this is likely the case for this particular trip since your dates above include New Year's Eve (historically a busy nite for hotels) as well as the Winter Break for many public schools, which brings extra demand (and higher prices) to this area as families use the time off from school to take family vacations.

To make this clearer... whatever city is hosting the SuperBowl is very often sold-out for those dates. This year it is in Phoenix on February 1st. If you were searching Phoenix for this date you would likely see very high prices, especially compared with other rates for dates which are more near. This would lead you to believe that rates are higher simply because the dates are further away, when in reality there is a logical reason (the SuperBowl) for the higher rates, which has nothing to do with the length of time before the trip.

What I will do is place a cancellable backup reservation right now...

We have a new site BackUpBooking.com which will show you only refundable rates which makes it easy to find your best deal that is refundable.

...and keep checking whats on Hotwire.

Let RateDrop do the work for you. :) You choose the star rating and zone(s) you want, and your 'buy price'... you'll then receive an email when anything from HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS meets your designated criteria.

The Caribe Royale Resorts Suites and Villas would be my best guess for this one.

Without a car, how will you get from (i'm assuming) the airport to the hotel and/or from the hotel to the parks?

If flying into Orlando i think there would still be significant expense getting from the Airport to the hotel.

Also, with so many hotels in this area looking for one specific property that offers an amenity you need is looking for a needle in a haystack, imo.

With respect to the pop-up notices "The last person got [name of hotel]" - How accurate is this?  It seems that this might be based on star rating and area across all dates.  Please confirm.  I believe this is the case because the hotel it suggested wasn't the one that matched up to the amenities provided.

Please keep all posts pertaining to this stay in this thread.

The "Last person got ___" info is relative to the last purchase of a hotel in the same at the same star rating... NOT necessarily the specific hotel that is currently being offered.

Found that this property has a shuttle to Disney saving me the expense of a car, is quite nice and highly rated.  Near Disney.  Pulled the trigger.  Used the HOTWIRE links.
