This listing hasn't been ID'd/reported to the board, but the W Lakeshore or Sheraton would be definite possibilities in this case.

Would have been happier with the Sheraton but with this rate I'm pleased to hit the W Lakeshore.  

 

Does anyone have any recommendations/tips for getting a better room at the W Lakeshore?

Really nice win for this property. I've stayed at the Sheraton and it's fine, but it's really a big, rather impersonal convention hotel. The W's style is understandably not everyone's cup-of-tea, but this property did get a substantial make-over recently and rooms really look completely different than they did. Location-wise, the two are fairly similar.

 

Lake view is the main upgrade here, but I'd actually try to ask for a high floor looking the other way for the chance of getting a nice view of the surrounding area. Lake view is fine, but at night it's darkness aside from Navy Pier, which is not going to have much going on at this point of the year anyway. Personally, I'd rather save the money and try to get the most optimal view looking the other way.
