graceg815
Hi there, Hoping to get some bidding advice! We want to stay in the Times Square district in at least a 4* hotel on 16-25th January 2015. Considering its low season I am hoping not to spend much more than $100 per night.Do you think this is possible? Also, when should I expect to win a bid?I have been trying for a few days but no luck yet! Thankyou very much for your help Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Yes, this is low season in NYC but $100 for a 4* hotel in Times Square for under $100/nite may not be in the cards for a week long stay. While nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, the chances of something for under $100/nite would be more likely for only weekend dates (which are typically lower than mid-week rates) and the odds go down as you include additional mid-week nites. My first question/thoughts would be "Why only the Times Square zone"? I would suggest reading our thoughts on Hotels Near Times Square If you're open to other areas i do think you can get a 4* hotel for around $100/nite as i see what i believe to be the Wyndham New Yorker for $105/nite (Madison Square Garden zone) and the Empire Hotel for $107/nite (southern end of the Upper West Side zone). If you're only looking for a hotel in the Times Square zone i think you're more likely looking at the $115-$140 area. graceg815
alright then. Well it will be our first time to NYC and quite a few people have said say in times square..we love being in a busy area so times square it is! I will start bidding a bid higher then at your suggested rates and I will let you know how I go. Thanks! :) Link to comment
thereuare
If you let us know your maximum bid we will suggest a strategy for you to follow, but i would re-iterate my comments above considering other nearby zones. While i don't feel there is no reason to avoid Times Square (although some due prefer to avoid it all together), with so many people in one place it can get quite congested (ie- think traffic jam... you may enjoy driving or being in your car, but nobody likes to sit in traffic ;) ). It's not as if other locations are desolate, as it's NYC so in most location there are almost other people around during 'regular' hours (you may find a few quiet streets in the 2am-6am time period) but at no time do i think you will feel isolated by any means if staying in most midtown locations. However, it's your stay and you know your needs/wants best. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. graceg815
Well i guess $140 would be my maximum bid. Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc) Select 4* Times Square... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $125 If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and try again, once again using this PRICELINE link to begin your bidding (and NOT the link in any emails that PRICELINE may send informing you that you're able to bid again): Select 4* Times Square... Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2... Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $140 If this too is rejected PRICELINE EXPRESS has this 4 STAR TIME SQUARE HOTEL (confirm your dates on the landing page) with Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center for $145/nite if you're willing to increase your budget by $5/nite. Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. graceg815
Well that's good to know! Do you have any idea which hotel that might be with the express deal? Thanks :) Link to comment
thereuare
My guess for the PRICELINE EXPRESS property would be the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan. graceg815
Bummer, no luck with the bidding yet!I didn't end up going with the express deal I think ill try bidding for a little longer. Any more suggestions? Sorry if I'm being a pain! I appreciate your help very much Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
Any more suggestions? My suggestion would continue to be to expand the zones you're willing to accept beyond only Times Square... you will likely spend far less time in Times Square than you think. I do enjoy spending some time in Times Square, but there is no reason to only stay within this zone, imo. Otherwise your options are to wait it out and try again in the days/weeks ahead OR increase your budget another $5 to be done with it.
