I am of course wanting to get the best deal I can on a hotel in New York. I have never been and I am traveling for a friends wedding and she is getting married in Central Park. I want to try and stay bt Central Park and Time Sq; are these 2 relatively close to each other because they kinda look like it on maps. I want a 4 star hotel in a safe neighborhood as I have a daughter under the age of 2 years. I also want to ensure that there is a bathroom in the room that I book bc I have learned that several hotels in NY have a bathroom per floor and not in each room. Any help with these things or suggestions would be very much appreciated. This Texas girl does not want to end up in a bad part of town w a small child and no potty in the middle of the night :)

I forgot to add that I am traveling there during the first of December and I am hoping to walk around and site see bc I do not want to have to haul my daughters car seat in and out of taxis and then around with us the entire day.... I am assuming that is how you travel in NY I have no idea :/

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Please confirm the date/s of travel and your desired budget per night and we would be happy to offer suggestions on options. Private bathroom is not a concern - no hotels have been reported to the board with shared bath in NYC and this would definitely not be a problem at the 4 star level.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

In addition to your dates and budget a few additional comments:

A car seat is not required for children in taxi cabs and although it may be done, i have never seen anyone 'bring their own'. If you don't feel safe having your child in the car without an approved car seat there are always subways and buses to get around the city (with subway being the most preferred choice of travel)

You only need double occupancy for this stay?

My dates of travel are check in 12-4-14  and check out 12-7-14. There will be 2 adults in the room and our daughter who is under 2.
She will sleep in the bed w us and we do not need more than one bed in the room. I would like to get a room for around 250 but I have learned that this is almost impossible for the area we want to stay in....:/ Like I mentioned we will be attending a wedding in central park that friday and doing sight seeing on saturday and would like to be able to walk if possible. so of course time sq. macy's Rockefeller center and the such are on our agenda. We are not wishing to see the statue of liberty. Like I mentioned our 2 requirements for a hotel are an in suite bathroom and a safe neighborhood/area. We will only be using our room to sleep and get dressed but very much so wish that the bed is comfy and the room is clean. That is why I was looking at 4 star :) I am not an avid traveler and have never been to NY so any advice is greatly appreciated and well received :) Thank you for the advice on how to travel wo a carseat :)

No one has any help or advice for me? I think I have narrowed down some hotels that I like I just wish I knew if they participated in the name your price/secret deals options. The list in no order is;

The Manhattan at Time Sq.

 Millennium Broadway Hotel

Mansfield

Courtyard by Marriott NY Manhattan/Time Sq W.

Cassa Hotel Time Sq.

anyone have any experiences with any of these? Thanks again for any help :)

If you scroll to the very end of this site, you will find Hotel Reviews.  Hopefully the hotels you list will be there.  www.tripadvisor.com is also a great source of reviews, but the ones here have the unique perspective of having been gotten at a great price.

As to which hotels participate in NYOP and Priceline Express, you can click on Hotel Lists up in the header.  You will be taken to lists of all the hotels members have reported as receiving.  Of course it is always possible to get a hotel not yet reported (I speak from personal experience).

When bidding, you don't have any way of selecting a specific hotel.  Within the boundaries of the Priceline zone map, you have to be willing to accept any hotel at or above the star level you are bidding.

With Priceline Express (and Hotwire) it is often possible to get an educated guess as to which hotel you might receive.

You can see all hotels reported to the board in the Priceline and Hotwire Hotel Lists, HOWEVER, i think you're going about this in the wrong manner. Even if all of the hotels above participate with PRICELINE's 'Name Your Own Price' there would be no way to target or ensure that you receive one of them. As well, even if all participated with HOTWIRE and/or PRICELINE EXPRESS, there would be no way to have any of these appear for your dates, you can only pick from what HOTWIRE / PRICELINE EXPRESS offer on your search (using our BiddingHelper.com tool will enable you to see all options with just one search)

From looking at your dates you will likely need to make a decision between budget and location... PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 3* hotel in the Lower East Side zone for $192/nite (Queen sized bed... a King bed can be had for $205/nite or two Queens for $218/nite... all of these significantly below your budget and includes free breakfast)... but you would need to cab/subway to Central Park for the wedding.

Continuing with PRICELINE EXPRESS the least expensive hotel in the CPS or TS zone starts at $285/nite (so is it worth nearly $100/nite more to stay in one of these two zones??)

So when viewed from this standpoint let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

I think it would be wise to book a cancelable backup reservation now so that you can be assured of lodging. Monitor the rates with RateDrop.com so you can monitor the prices. I had previously stayed at the Manhattan Times Square Hotel and it was perfect for my needs: close to the Theater District, close to the subway, close to Times Square and close to Central Park. This property was a former Sheraton, a little worn around the edges, but clean and I felt safe. I made my booking with Hotwire. Good luck and remember that there is a first time for everything.

Just want to add that we have just completed a new site: BackUpBooking.com that will show you only refundable reservations (always double check the terms during check-out) so that you can easily see/compare your refundable reservation options. :)

And as dahammer points out, it makes a good companion to our RateDrop service.
