Hi!

Two norwegian first timers in NYC wants to explore the vibrant music scene in NYC. The Bowery Ballroom, Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury seems like good places.

Genres we like is: Rock, Folk-Rock and bluegrass.

We are also considering to split up the stay on two hotels.

Our stay is 17. to 22. of march 2015. We are willing to pay up to 790 dollars inc tax for our stay.

Which areas do you recommend for our stay and are there other venues that is highly recomended.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Regarding your hotel:

Please post your budget on a per nite basis before taxes and fees. I'm estimating your budget to be about $130/nite?

What star rating are you looking for?

Regarding the music scene:

While i'm not as up to date on the music scene anymore, i do like these two place:

Cafe Wha on Wed thru Sunday nites has an excellent cover band with very talented people. It's more of a cabaret type of set-up where there are long tables facing a stage, but people do eventually get up and dance between the tables a bit. Also, the City Winery is a good, mellow, laid back venue if you happen to be in town when somebody you would like to see is performing (space a better vibe than the acoustics) and the Back Stage (Bleeker St) often has some talented acoustic music going on (probably every nite of the week, but i'm not certain... the quality of music gets better as the nite get later)

Hi!

Thanks for replying.

When I look at the map over music venues in NY, I see many in WV, GV, EV, LES and Williamsburg. Of this areas it seems that only LES can offer Hotel in our price range. Is this a good spot for our interests or are other neigborhood better suited for us?

Our per nite budget is about 130-150.

On PL express deal an 138 dollar offer with 3 stars appear on LES. Do you have any clue what hotel this is?

Ive also tried to make a 130 dollar bid on PRICE.LINE, choosing 3 stars, EV and LES without getting an offer.

I believe 3 * should be minimum, but got tempted on two very cheap hotels in Chinatown for about 104 dollars per nite. Hotel 91, 3* and Mayor Hotel, 2*. From this Hotels it was about 15 min walk to E. Houston street where many venues is. What about these hotels? Are this a good neigborhood for us.

I would focus on a central location for visiting NYC... not for the venues you intend to visit each nite. You will (i'm assuming) only go to one venue each nite, but will more than likely visit many other tourist destinations and neighborhoods during the day, so better to find a centrally located hotel that will serve your needs well for both daytime and nighttime activities. If you leave any of the music venues very late at nite (or very early in the morning as the case may be ;) ) you can simply take a taxi back to your hotel... from most of the Village locations to midtown a taxi should cost you $10-$20.

I suggest avoiding the lower rated hotels in NYC as the quality can start to vary greatly... while you may find a diamond in the rough, you could also end up at a hotel where every minute you're there you wish you had spent a little more.

When bidding no PRICELINE don't exclude any zones that would be acceptable but you think would be out of your budget, as 1) you may be surprised and win a hotel in a zone that you thought was otherwise too expensive, and 2) at the very least you can use these zones to increase the number of bids you make within any 24 hour period (which should help you obtain the best deal possible)

For the 3* PRICELINE EXPRESS offer in the LES zone, what are the amenities that PRICELINE associates with this offer?

Hi!

Thanks for all tips helping us finding the right neighborhood and Hotel. So you will recommend that Midtown is the best choice for our trip?

The PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for 138 in LES has fitness center, business center, free internet, free breakfast and bed choice available. Includes free internet and breakfast. Guest rating 8+.

If I expand Ill get an offer for

Midtown West, 3*, with fitness center and guest rating 8 for 142 dollar per nite.

Central Park South, 3,5*, pets allowed and guest rate 8 for 145 dollar per nite.

Times Square - Theatre District, 3*, restaurant, fitness center, business center and bed choice available for 151 per nite.

My guess for the PRICELINE EXPRESS LES property would be the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel.

Midtown West, 3*, with fitness center and guest rating 8 for 142 dollar per nite.

Central Park South, 3,5*, pets allowed and guest rate 8 for 145 dollar per nite.

==> too few amenities to take a reasonable guess at either

Times Square - Theatre District, 3*, restaurant, fitness center, business center and bed choice available for 151 per nite.

==> the Best Western Plus President Hotel At Times Square has previously been seen with this amenity set but i don't have a lot of confidence in this given almost all 3* hotels in NYC have these amenities

Your thoughts at this point?

Hi!

Thanks for replying.

I am thinking more about splitting the dates for getting more out of the stay and more option for hotels.

from 17-20 march i got Times square for 147 dollars. Restaurant, internet, fitness and business.

from 20-22 march i got LES for 159. Fitness, internett, business and breakfast.

Is it possible for you to point out these locations?

Please remember to include the star ratings of each property as it will make it easier for us to find the same offer when replicating your search.

Best guess for the Times Square property (i'm assuming it's the 3 star property i'm currently seeing for $147/nite) would be the Best Western Plus President Hotel At Times Square (more confidence in this guess than when guessed with a slightly different amenity set above (but still no guarantees ;) )

The Lower East Side property is 3* rated too? If so, my guess here would be the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel or the Blue Moon.

I think you can do better...

4* St Giles The Court for $148/nite from 3/19-3/22 (confirm the dates on the landing page) PLUS this rate is refundable up until a few days before your arrival should something better come along (double check terms on landing page / booking page)

This also enables you to add a few dollars per nite to the first 2 nites of your trip (to be equal to the same $900 all-in deal above) which i think then gives you a few additional options at the 3*-4* levels and in additional zones.

Bottomline is that if you see the refundable rate above for the St Giles The Court you have nothing to lose by grabbing that now, then see what you're able to 'fill in' for the first two nites in the coming days. (as well as flexibility to take advantage of something else for the last 3 nites should something better come along) As well, the St Giles the Court is near Grand Central Terminal where you can catch the 4-5-6 train (green line) and the 4 and 6 trains stop at Bleecker St in Greenwich Village (Bleecker St is one of the 'main' streets in the Village with lots of bars/music venues)

Hi!

Thanks again for replying.

It is the close range to B-D-E, 1 and C-E substations and low price that appealed to me for choosing Amsterdam Court.

St. Giles is a better hotel and more spacious rooms, but have not multiple substation nearby.

I can be fun to have two locations for a deeper exploring of those neighborhoods. Holiday Inn at LES seems like a good hotel and close by some of the best venues. The only downside is the location too close to Delancey st.

Best Western at Times Square is an alternative for the first three days and Blue Moon for the last two but are streching the budget a bit. Is it worth it?

It's your trip, but 6 months before your stay i'd take the great refundable rate at the St. Giles at this point in time. Do you have some specific plans in mind that you don't think the subways at Grand Central will easily be able to get you to?
