martinal
Hi Just need some help with bidding for a 4.5 star in Central pk south, Midtown west, midtown east. For a 10 night stay 9/24-10/04... I placed a bid for 282.00 USD excluding taxes etc and it was rejected. These are my preferred zones particularly CPS and MTW. I guess 10 nights is a long stay and wonder if there is a better chance of having success closer to my stay? Any help woud be appreciated..... Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If these are the only three zones you're willing to accept, i think you'll need to be closer to the $350-$380/nite. Can i ask why only these three zones, as most NYC midtown zones are geographically very close to one another and there are others which are also considered to be convenient. Close to your budget i'm seeing what appears to be the St. Giles - The Tuscany for $289/nite, should this be of any interest. Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. martinal
Many Thanks for getting back! I will bear in mind this amount as a ballpark for a 4.5 star. Is $380.00 inclusive of taxes and charges What other areas do you suggest? When is the most conducive time for bidding? Is it closer to the travel dates? Many Thanks and I will notify of any win or progress. Link to comment
AaronJB
The Fall is generally a busy time in NYC and I'd be persistent in trying to get something locked in. MTE and ESB are also fine options. MSG-Convention also works. 4-5 years ago, there was more in the way of "last minute" deals, but as traffic has ramped up, rates have climbed and there have been less in the way of last minute deals (and more in the way of rates actually going higher as the dates get closer - do keep in mind that rates can absolutely go either way as the dates of travel approach.) Would the St Giles Tuscany be of any interest? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
martinal
I have just looked up Tuscany St Giles and the basic room is listed as a studio? Is this hotel likely to come up if bidding MTE 4 star? Yes I can see things have been thriving in NYC. I have been there almost yearly since 2006 which was the only time I placed a priceline bid in the past a little blindly might I add, but got the Grand Hyatt for 150.00 a night cannot remember if it was USD or Euro for 6 nights and they even upgraded us! I am far more familiar with the areas and Zones now. I will look at all areas suggested. Again Many Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
Is this hotel likely to come up if bidding MTE 4 star? There is no way to know if this, or some other 4* hotel, is likely to be the one to accept your bid price. When bidding on PRICELINE you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. You may be able to gain a little insight as to the hotel you may receive if instead of bidding on PRICELINE you were to use HOTWIRE or PL express, but either of these options will likely cost you a little more than if you were to win a bid on PRICELINE. If you'd like a hotel in a specific location you can use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com which shows hotels near almost any location in the world and makes it easy to see how much more/less it would cost to go up/down in star rating OR to stay closer/further from your ideal location. martinal
I have seen a 5 star express deal in CPS the area I would like to stay 9/24-10/04 for 434 dollars per night. On name your own price what percentage less would one expect to bid or is there any rationale to this? Would 300-350 dollars seem ok? I do have a fall back plan but would ideally like 5 star / 4.5 star in MTW/ CPS. Many thanks.. Link to comment
thereuare
There is no set formula for how much of a discount you may see by bidding vs. PRICELINE EXPRESS, but i suspect a $100/nite savings would not be very likely. If you let us know your maximum bid for a 5* hotel in one of these two zones (are MTW and CPS the only acceptable zones at the 5* level) we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. thereuare
What do you want to try first... A 5* hotel up to $400 or the least expensive 4.5* or better hotel up to $320?? martinal
I would like to try the least expensive 4.5 star at 320 dollars inclusive of taxes if possible...if i have the concept right.... I place bid on 4.5 star cps if rejected add 4.5 star mtw if rejected add 5.0 star cps and up the amount ...and this bid upwards could possibly give any of the 3 options? Correct me if I am wrong...and also how much I should start bidding.... I can do this almost daily now till I go... [Are the Loews Regency and Marriot Essex the only 4.5 in cps and the Quin only 5 star?] Also looks like theres only 2 4.5 star in MTW.... Royalton and Sofitel Link to comment
thereuare
You can bid better than your proposal above. 270 To begin, note that comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List as the lists only contain hotels reported to the board so there could always be others than are not yet known, newly added to the PRICELINE / HOTWIRE system, or recently upgraded/downgraded. In terms of bidding, i would try the following (although i suspect your maximum bid of ~$275 won't be enough): When bidding 4.5* in NYC you have NINE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4.5* MTW... Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $240, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4.5* CPS... Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $240, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4.5* MTW and CPS... Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $250, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $255, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $260, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $263, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $265, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $268, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $270, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $273, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $275 Any questions feel free to ask. martinal
Thanks for this...Just one question I realize you have to add re bid zones in order to increase bid. But if there are 4.5 star hotels in other zones other than CPS, MTW, or MTE and I have added those already in re bidding and add for eg ESB to increase my bid I may be accepted for there... ie I may be accepted for a zone I dont want to stay in. Perhaps this is not the case and I have to study it more. If this is the case I could start bids a little higher or re visit 24 hourly. The above 3 are my preference particularly CPS and MTW. Select 4.5* MTW...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone............. MTEBid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone..............TSBid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone..............ESB....... could this then be accepted and win in ESB area?Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $240, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE........As opposed to not using it initially? Does this give a fresh bidding start other than waiting 24 hours Are the above bidding suggestions inclusive of taxes? Sorry for all the questions.. Link to comment
thereuare
I don't think you're correctly identifying/using your re-bid zones so let's back track a moment... Using the method at Priceline Re-Bidding Explained what would you be using as your NINE re-bid zones? (NOTE: MTE, TS, ESB are not any of them) If you've read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and are still confused try the following: 1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter your city and dates, and click "GO". 2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above. 4) post your findings and we'll take it from there If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for all your bididng/purchases (initial access to the page and wen re-accessing for re-bidding purposes). Thanks. martinal
Just some feedback....I really wanted a 4.5 star CPS and persevered with Priceline bids/ and checking express deals daily. I ended up putting in my top dollar bid today and was rejected. I called the property directly and this price was obtained and I got my reservation. I know if I was more flexible on areas and perhaps if it was not such a long stay I would have more success as I know great deals are there. I will be travelling again with perhaps not such staunch criteria and I appreciate all your help and advice. Link to comment
