HI:  I'm  a lurker who has bid many times on Priceline for Hotels.

I am planning a trip to New York in July.  I will need two rooms for four adults.

When would be the best time to start bidding;  4 months? 6 months?     etc.

Please don't say one week out......

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

I"m guessing you mean July 2015? If so, I think you could certainly start looking right now and see if there happens to be anything, but July is generally not a terrible period in NYC (especially the back half), so I'd say you could wait until early next year. July isn't as slow/inexpensive as January-March, but it's certainly better than the Fall/early Winter.

What would be your desired budget per room/per night, which zone/s would be acceptable and are your dates confirmed?

It would be appreciated if you started to share your wins with the board so that others can benefit from the information, just as you have benefited from those who have posted before you. ;)

I'd suggest using the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins to see rates won for the month of July last year to determine the range of wins... then start bidding with your maximum bid near the low end of the range to see if you get a win... as you get closer to your trip, slowly raise the amount of your maximum bid.

Let us know once your dates are set, which zones you're willing to accept, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I don't know if Hot.wire or Price.line will work for me.  I need two beds in on of the rooms and I don't know if there's a way to ensure that while bidding....

As noted, there's no way to guarantee two beds via bidding (this is especially true in NYC, where rooms with two beds often go for a premium.)

If you need more than 1 bed (could be 1 + rollaway, 1 + sofabed or 2 beds), I would suggest looking on HOTWIRE and searching for more than 2 people - enter in 2 adults and 2 children, even if only 2 adults, for example) or looking on PRICELINE EXPRESS.

If 2 beds is a must, the only option would be to look on PRICELINE EXPRESS for a listing that offers "bed type", then clicking on the listing and looking for 2 beds as an option.

Let us know your thoughts and if you have additional questions.

HOTWIRE listings will let you know if there's a bed choice available. Priceline NYOP only guarantees a bed for two which in NYC is often a double sized bed only.

Actually, it's PRICELINE EXPRESS that shows the bed option.

However, HOTWIRE may also work (as per above) you can search for triple/quad occupancy to ensure an extra bed in the room, but the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc.

Would the sofabed/rollaway option work for your needs and/or do you see any 'bed choice' options thru PRICELINE EXPRESS that are within your budget?

What are the dates of your trip?
