Alicat
Hi,I am new to this site but heard great things about it. I am looking for a hotel in NYC Oct 14-18, 2014 and would appreciate some help/tips with bidding as I have been unsuccessful so far. Wishlist: Star rating 3.5* or higher Zones TS, MTE, MTW Price Range No more than $200 CAD Above is my wishlist however I have continuously increased from $150 up to $200 for the above without success so have also included CPS, HK, Empire State areas as well as including 3*hotels in the hopes that I would find something but still have not been successful. I have read and think I understand the rebidding process but for 3.5* there is only 1 rebid zone and none for 3* so I think I am left with only waiting the 24 hours and increasing in price but have already reached what I would hope to pay. I guess my questions are: Am I bidding too early for my dates? Is this typically an expensive time to travel to NYC? Do I need to go above $200 or just be patient and keep bidding at $200? I'm afraid to wait too late and availability decreases and then prices go up even higher. I have also been checking the express deals and hotwire but have not found much below $250 for a 3*. I see so many accepted bids in NYC at great prices for amazing hotels. I would like to keep bidding in the hopes to find something so any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! The Fall is high-season in NYC and it taking more than $180/nite (US equivalent of your $200CAD bid) is not unheard of for this time of year. There is no way to know if rates will come down, or move even higher, as you get closer to your trip... it all depends upon supply/demand (how expected new reservations/cancellations come in realtive to actual new reservations/cancellations... more reservations (or fewer cancellations) than anticipated and you can see rates rise, or vice-versa) NOTE that if including CPS in your bidding the Hudson Hotel becomes a possible outcome, and while centrally located, they have extremely small rooms (even by NYC standards) so you will need to be comfortable with this as an outcome if you continue to include this zone in your bidding. Using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel in one of the areas you're bidding? Alicat
Hi,Just to update, I tried bidding on priceline today for TS, MTE, MTW, ESB, HK, MSG for $210 Cad / night to no avail. I had only been checking hotwire for TS, MTE and MTW so thought I'd check for other areas. Here is what I found and decided to book and got: 3* Empire State Building$212 CAD/night100% recommended, top ratedAmenitites: pet friendly, smoke free rooms, self service laundry, internet accessBook fast! The last person to book this received the NH Jolly Madison Towers Hotel After researching the hotel and thinking it was a great price compared to what I've been seeing I went ahead and booked it and in fact did receive this hotel. That deal is now not currently showing on hotwire anymore, in fact a 2* ESB is $250 Cad and a 2.5* is $296 Cad. Glad I booked when I did, happy with price and area! Thank you. Link to comment
