kvol2000
What should I start my bidding with? I want to stay in the Loop, and want atleast a 3.5 hotel. There appears to be 4 'free bid' options. Is that correct? Thanks for the help.Love this site. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages. Then let us know if the Loop is the only one you're willing to accept or is the NMA zone acceptable as well? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Also, so that we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher then you're willing to pay, what is your maximum bid for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know the information above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. kvol2000
Wow - thanks for the quick reply.I just want the least expensive 3.5 or higher. I would not want to pay more for a 4 star.As for location, I have only been to Chicago once and we stayed in the Loop and it seems to be close to everything. We are flying in and will use the subway/bus as transportation. But if it would save lots of money I would be willing to include NMA.I really need to stay under $110 a night. Link to comment
AaronJB
There are a couple of 3.5*'s in the Loop that are not terribly convenient - if you want to try to stay within budget, it's still worth a try as you want to give yourself as many options as possible, but I do think that - in terms of convenience and in most cases in terms of quality - the 3/3.5*'s in the NMA area are a better option. It's worth trying lower and moving higher by $5's, but unfortunately I do think that $110 may not be quite enough (it may take $115-130), but I would absolutely start lower and see if a hotel will accept a lower offer first. thereuare
The Loop is close to museums, the aquarium, etc. but can get a little quiet at nite... the NMA zone is a bit more lively and has more restaurants, bars, and an active nightlife. The NMA zone is usually (but not always) a little more expensive than the Loop zone, and if budget is a concern, i would suggest including both zones and let PRICELINE award the one with the cheapest rate (we will suggest a strategy for you to follow)... but only do this if you're fine with both zones, if you only want to stay in the Loop, then you should only bid this zone. Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kvol2000
I would be willing to accept either the LOOP or NMA for 3.5 + Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 3.5* in Chicago you have FOUR re-bid zones. Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $98, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* Loop and NMA... kvol2000
A Question: When i go to priceline as if i'm going to pay the listed price - I select 'The Loop' and '3 Stars'. I see the list and it appears that 2 on that list are not in 'The Loop' - The Marriott at Medical Dist and Crowne Plaza Metro. Does this only occur if you pay the list price, since you can see where it is even though it is outside of the area I picked? If i 'Name my price' could I also get one of these that appear to be out of the area? Link to comment
AaronJB
The zones on the retail side and the bidding side often differ. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment

kvol2000
Well - I've tried the last two nights using this strategy (i even went up to 120) with no wins. So it looks like I may need to drop to 3 stars.I did see and express deal for NMA for 3 star at $126 with Fitness, Internet, Breakfast, Busniness Center. Any guess as to which one that may be? AaronJB
This listing hasn't been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'd guess the Holiday Inn Express Cass would be a distinct possibility. kvol2000
After several unsuccessful attempts at bidding, I settled on the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal 3* for 130. It was the HI Express Cass as you suspected. The free breakfast and internet made the deal for me.,,,,, although today i see a 3.5 * for $100 in NMA,, Oh well, I still feel as though I got a great deal. Thanks for all your help! Link to comment
