fredstansted
Hi! Heading to Manhattan from 17th to 23rd of September. 6 nights. I used your HOTWIRE link and found two interesting hotels, but would appreciate some help identifying them. A general question also, any indicators on how long before the stay I should book? I have the feeling that the prices drop heavily 1-2 weeks before arrival, although it seems a tad risky to sit out other good deals. I have no area preferences other than it being below Central Park and preferably not too far out on the avenues towards the water. So I can be flexible with regards to area. 4*: Area: Madison Square Garden - Hell's Kitchen areaOriginal price: $304Hotwire price: $242Amenities: Free Internet, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Golf NearbyAccessibility: Accessible for the blind, accessible for the deafTrip Advisor Rating: 4 out of 5.0Hotwire customer reviews: 70 % recommended (684 total review) with 3,5 overall satisfaction I am thinking this could be either Affinia or Wyndham due to the blind/deaf accessibility, although I am not sure? 5*: Area: Midtown Central areaOriginal price: $1037Hotwire price: $401Amenities: Fitness Center, Business Center, Internet acess, Spa ServicesResort fee: $30 per person per nightTrip Advisor Rating: no rating presentedHotwire customer reviews: 85 % recommended (13 total review) with 4,5 overall satisfaction Could this be The Plaza? AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. There is no guarantee that prices will come down closer to your stay. That was seen more often right after 2008, but as demand has come back, there have been a lot of examples of people who wait thinking that prices will come down and then they go the other way (and can do so suddenly.)That's not saying that rates can't come down, but simply that choosing to wait is a risk, especially when you're going to NYC during a busier period. For the MSG listing, If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? If you're seeing: Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower My guess would be the Wyndham New Yorker. Given the resort fee, my guess would be the Westhouse for the 5* MTC. I also see what appears to be the St Giles the Tuscany for $341, what may be the Carlton or St Giles the Court for $298. You may see slightly different prices. Would any of the above work for your needs? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
fredstansted
Hi. Well, then I guess I should just hurry up and book a hotel rather sooner than later. I cannot find the exact same price on BiddingHelper.com.com as with the Hotwire-reference I got through an alerts on RateDrop.com. But I did find the same hotel, and it does in fact have the list of amenities you posted. So then I guess it is the Wyndham. If the 5-star is not The Plaza, then the $30 is a dealbreaker. Preferably I would like to stay cheapest possible, I would only pay $400 if it were The Plaza. Otherwise I would say my budget is around $200 for 4*. Haven't given any thoughts to my 3* budget, but maybe I should do that too. I found this on PRICELINE EXPRESS: 4 Star Hotel in Upper West Side Area for $217/night Area: UWS Amenities: Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Fitness Center, Business Center Guest score: 7.0 / 10 Would this be The Empire? thereuare
Yes, the Empire Hotel would be my best guess for this 4* UWS property.
