markg8tr
Headed to NYC weekend of Oct 2-5. Looking to stay at a 5* What is the best way to get started? Link to comment
yellowdog
Welcome to BetterBidding! How do you want to play this? Would you like to go with HOTWIRE or PRICELINE? If you're trying to target a specific property then HOT.WIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOT.WIRE usually costs a little more than PRICE.LINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. We also need to know what zones you're willing to stay in and max budget/night before tax/fee's Let us know and we'll go from there Please use the PRICELINE and hot.wire links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. markg8tr
Yellowdog, Thanks for the help. We would probably prefer to start with Hotwire because we would prefer to know what the likely hotel is. Max budget per night before taxes and fees is $500. Zones are: Upper East, Upper West, Midtown Central, Times Square, Midtown East. Zones are in order of preference except that Upper East and Upper West are of equal preference. We really would like to be close to Central Park. Going with wife for weekend so we won't be bringing kids. Its our first trip so I want to take her somewhere nice. Thanks so much for your help. AaronJB
On Hot.wire, I see the Westhouse for $383 (although keep in mind that there's a $30 fee per day tacked on) and I see what appears to be the Chatwal for $483. There are two other 5* options for these dates, but they are in the Financial District and ESB.Additionally,on the regular rate side of Hot.wire, the Quin is showing at $499 and the Waldorf Towers for $429. Would either of the two properties mentioned above be of interest? If so, let us know and we would be happy to point them out on Hot.wire. Link to comment
markg8tr
Aaron, Thank you for the help. Much appreciated. I clicked through to Hot.wire in the link in your post. I see a 5* mid town central at $390. It has $30 per day fee. I understand that Westhouse charges that fee. Is that right? Note on Hotwire says last person got Westhouse. I see a 5* for Upper East at $369. Rack rate is $675. Amenities are pet friendly, fitness center, restaurant(s), business center, self-service laundry, internet access, spa services. Note on Hotwire says last person got Plaza Athenee. Last 5*. Theater district at $481. Rack rate is $705. Amenities are free internet, pet friendly, indoor pool, smoke free rooms, fitness center, restaurants, self-service laundry, and spa services. NO note on Hotwire that says what last person got. What do you think these are? Thanks, Mark Link to comment
AaronJB
This afternoon when searching for these dates, I'm seeing: a 5* TS: Restaurant, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Laundry, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly Would be a possible match for the Chatwal. ----- a 5* UES: Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Spa, Pet Friendly This hasn't been ID'd/reported to the board, but the Carlyle and Surrey would be possibilities. ----- 5* MTC: Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry I was seeing a listing that, when you clicked on the listing and then scrolled down on the detail page, said $30 fee - which lead me to believe that it was likely the Westhouse. Now I'm seeing this listing that doesn't note the $30 fee, leading me to believe that it may be the Quin instead now showing. Double check to see if the "$30 fee" note is showing on the bottom of the detail page when you search. Let us know if you have any questions before booking. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
thereuare
NO note on Hotwire that says what last person got.Note that the "Last person got ___" info shown by HOTWIRE is in reference to the last purchase at the same star rating and zone, not the specific hotel offered. thereuare
I'm not currently seeing either of the HOTWIRE properties offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing these on your own search? For the PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel my guess would be the The Pierre New York. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare
I see them now... Best guess/comments for each: Upper East - 5* --> The Pierre or The Surry... the Hotel Plaza Athenee and The Carlyle can't be excluded, but i think the first two are the more likely of the four Midtown Central - 5* --> The Quin Hotel would be my best guess here Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. markg8tr
Last time. Time to make a decision. Have these four: PRICELINE EXPRESS CPS 5* - $382 per night: bed choice allowed - pets allowed, restaurant, free internet, fitness center, business center Upper East 5 * $471 per night: bed choice allowed - pets allowed, restaurant, business center HOTWIRE MTC 5* - $772 down to $385 per night fitness center, business center, internet - $30 per night fee UES 5 * -- $657 down to $374 per night: pet friendly, fitness center, restaurant, business center, self service laundry, internet access, spa services Thoughts? AaronJB
HOTWIRE MTC 5* - Given the fee, the Westhouse would be likely. The 5* UES has not yet been Id'd/reported to the board - a new amenity set for the Carlyle would be a possibility, but it may be something else. On PRICELINE EXPRESS the 5* CPS has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board. The 5* UES has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but given the 9+ guest rating, I'd guess the Surrey, Plaza Athenee and Carlyle would be likely possibilities.
