hydrazine
Going on a business trip (convention at the Javits Center) and need 2 rooms from August 16th-20th. I am flexible in locations, but would prefer to be in the MSG/Convention, Chelsea, Hells Kitchen, Midtown East, Empire State, Midtown West, Times Square areas. I've already tried bidding starting from $140/night adding areas and winding up at $160/night - but did not have any success. I don't mind a 3.5* hotel but would prefer 4*... can anyone take a guess as to what a reasonable expectation for winning bid might be for these dates/areas? Thanks! Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :) What would be your desired max bid per night for this stay? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
hydrazine
Thanks for the welcome! Well, I just checked Hot.wire and I can get a 4* in Midtown East for $177/night, which I believe is the Lexington (or could be the W)... there are also fees on top of that, but there are also fees on top of the Price.line bid, so I'd say if it was over $177/night, I'd be better just going with the Hot.wire deal. I guess my limit would be $170 or so then for a 4* on PL. Do you think I am in the right time zone (I mean, in terms of how far away the trip is) to get a good deal? Or might I be better waiting until the weekend or so? Link to comment
thereuare
If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. There is no way to know if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay; but with 10 days before your arrival i wouldn't anticipate too much movement or major price drops. Assuming your acceptable zones are still: MSG/Convention, Chelsea, Hells Kitchen, Midtown East, Empire State, Midtown West, Times Square i would bid as follows: Select 4* MSG, Chelsea, HK, MTE... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MSG, ESB, MTW, TS... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $168 If the above is rejected PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $178/nite but is currently offering 5% OFF with code METRO6 which brings this to $169/nite and you could then take this one: Free Internet in public areas Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center (my guess for this is the Lexington) Any questions feel free to ask. hydrazine
So just to update this post, I decided to extend my stay to August 21st. So I looked on Priceline.Express through the above link, and they had a 4* in MTE for $169/night. With the 5% off coupon, the total price was $1956 inclusive of all fees. I went to Price.line through the link above, and started at $130 and bid up to $160/night. Checking in August 16, checking out August 21st... at a bid of $160, the total price on PL with fees was $1929, and I was rejected at that price. Any higher would have put the price equal to the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal... and I wouldn't have known which hotel or location I might be getting a hotel in. So I opted to go with the Express deal. It ended up being the One UN hotel in Midtown East. Interesting side note - I actually knew 100% it was the One UN before I booked it... when I clicked "Book it" and on the page where you enter the coupon code, it asked me if I wanted a "superior room, East tower" or "deluxe room, west tower". With this information, it was trivial to figure out exactly which hotel it was. I've stayed at lots of NYC hotels, but never the One UN... so hopefully it will be decent. Thanks for the help! AaronJB
Congrats on your success. :) Excellent win for this property and glad you are satisfied with the result. Can you confirm the amenities that were showing with this listing before purchase? hydrazine
The amenities shown were Indoor/Outdoor Pool Restaurant Fitness Center Business Center It also said "Bed choice available". Bed choice is interesting. I am guessing Price.line / Hot.wire just pass through the hotel's description for this field. I noticed that about 2/3rds of the hotels list bed choices, and they are all worded slightly differently. Like "Tower suite" or "Tower studio". Those descriptions match the nomenclature the hotel uses... so it's another way to identify which exact hotel you're booking, certainly in cases where the room descriptions are unique. Thanks again for the help, I'm looking forward to the trip. Link to comment
