hmkhatri
Hi,Can you please help me identify which hotel this would be?4* north Michigan ave river north for $135 from 8/30 - 9/1. amenities doesn't include free wifi which worries me that I have to shell out extra for that (in addition to parking). Amenties: Restaurant, fitness center and business center.Rating:8.0 or above, Guest Favorite Link to comment
AaronJB
Unfortunately, these amenities are very common and it's difficult to narrow down the possibilities much. The Hyatt Mag Mile, both Westins and the Sheraton would be a possibility. I'd say the Sheraton would probably be more likely, but it may be something else. Unfortunately, free wifi is relatively rare in the city. I do see what appears to be the Public on HOTWIRE (a 4* in the Mag Mile-WT area on HOTWIRE for $150 with:Free InternetPet friendlyBoutique HotelSmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterInternet accessGolf NearbyTennis NearbyAccessible for the blindAccessible for the deafAccessible path of travelIn-room accessibilityWheelchair accessibleAccessible bathroomHandicapped parkingRoll-in showerThat hotel definitely does offer free wifi in rooms and public spaces. Unfortunately, parking is going to be expensive at the hotel (slightly less expensive at a nearby lot.) I often recommend the North Suburbs (Northbrook/Glenview/Deerfield) as a downtown alternative. Those hotels may/may not offer free wifi, but they do offer free parking - given how expensive parking is downtown, that definitely makes a difference. However, it becomes then taking the Metra trains (which are nice) downtown. Suburban hotels are likely to be around half/less than half downtown hotels. Let us know your thoughts on the above and we would be happy to offer further suggestions. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Link to comment
hmkhatri
Thanks for the quick reply. How is the South McCormick Place area in terms of parking cost and commute to attractions since I am getting the Hyatt Regency there for $109. I will have a car but I am planning to get a nearby garage instead of the hotel and then thinking of using the bus or cab to go places (Navy Pier/Hancock/Sears). It seems a bit of hassle to me hence I am more leaning towards finding a hotel in Magnificient mile area. Link to comment
AaronJB
If you're going to stay out later at night I'd take a cab back rather than the bus. If you stay at the Hyatt McCormick, there's also the Metra line that runs by that. That said, there's really nothing directly around McCormick. Personally, if I'm going to stay downtown, I want to be able to walk out and have things right there and be downtown. If McCormick was massively cheaper, that would be maybe worthy of consideration. However, personally - and I don't like to spend any more than I have to on hotel - I'd really rather go even with this 4* Mag Mile N-Water Tower area listing on HOTWIRE for $25 more:Pet friendlySmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterInternet accessTennis NearbyAccessible for the blindAccessible for the deafAccessible path of travelIn-room accessibilityAccessible bathroomHandicapped parkingRoll-in showerThat listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but given the pool, I'd guess the Crowne Plaza Avenue would be a definite possibility. You definitely do not need to have the car downtown - I'd park it at one of the city lots (cheaper) or at the hotel and leave it there. hmkhatri
I finally settled on this hotel on the Loop since parking was cheaper on that area. Hope this hotel is nice (review says rooms are small but overall hotel is good). Amenities: Bus Center, Gym/Spa and Free InternetGuest Rating: 8.0 Link to comment

AaronJB
You'll likely find garages in the streets nearby, but you can park in the larger Grant Park/Millennium Park lots as well and walk back to the hotel - no need for the car downtown to get around. Link to comment
