aoigirl
Hi I'm looking for a NYC place for now more than $200 a night on my stay. Areas I'm ok with is anywhere in Manhattan (no brooklyn or LIC), but not UWS or UES. Given all the different star ratings I'm not sure where I should start. $200 a night is roughly where I am happy to live with. I am not sure if this is too ambitious. I have access to family and friend rates in manhattan with one of the hotel chains that takes it to roughly $230 / 240 a night with brands like Holiday Inn etc. in a more central part of town. p.s. I'm working on the SF hotels on another thread, will keep updating on that one. Sorry to ask for more than 1 thread. Link to comment
thereuare
What star rating is it that you would like to try for... a 3* hotel can easily be had for less than $200/nite... a 4* hotel looks like it would currently be somewhere in the $190-$210 area (not sure how firm your $200 limit is) Also, to avoid any confusion, please list the zones (by PRICELINE name) that you are wiling to accept (instead of listing the zones you I accept) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
aoigirl
Hi there, Thanks for your reply. I can deal with 3* stars - the 2* ones look a bit dicey in terms of luck of the draw. I know my way pretty well around NYC as I used to live there so I'm not over fussed Areas:Central Park SouthChelseaEmpire State building areaLower east sideMidtown EastMidtown West, Soho-TribecaTimes Square - Theatre DistrictUnion Square - East Village Link to comment
thereuare
Just to confirm before bidding... you're OK with the very small rooms at the Hudson Hotel in the CPS zone? Please confirm and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aoigirl
Yes, completely fine with tiny rooms! I go to Japan a lot, so I'm very much used to tiny. I can live with the small room if it's the Hudson. Link to comment

aoigirl
Thanks, I will dedicate some time to have a look at this (I think would need an hour... the search engine is so slow!) I was looking at the Wyndham Garden non refundable rate of 1066 incl of all tax on Hotels.com (with a 10% discount code). Do you think that there is any chance I can get any hotel cheaper than this in this search sequence (noting it's a 3.5 star not a 3)? Link to comment
aoigirl
ps, can't seem to find the edit button for the post above I gave the bids above $150 and still no avail. The reason why I am looking specifically at the Wyndham Chinatown, and perhaps the Holiday Inn Soho is for their location and close to subway (and they are currently the cheapest rates on the express/ hotwire deals and on other sites) and near my old stomping ground. Of course anywhere near a good subway is good, but I think some areas are taking too many chances. We've also re-looked at our options and the first preference is that Lower east side (but holiday inn LES is too far). There are some odd hotels (blue moon?) at 3 stars LES on the express deals which doesn't look that great. I read through a few older posts and realised that some Midtown East ones will be way to far to walk from subway, and some of the other areas (esb) may be a bit of a no man's land.. so I apologise for all the effort that went into that search, but having spent some time going through up to 140 i'm not sure if it would work out in a positive way given the change of heart in area, and the fact that that there seems to be so many meh 3* hotels around..! So If i wre to change this to LES, Soho/ Tribeca at from 3.5 stars upwards about $200 - 210 a night (incl of taxes), is that really quite limited in what I can find? I am willing to go up to $240 - $250 inclusive of all taxes. Link to comment
thereuare
ps, can't seem to find the edit button for the post aboveYou can only edit your posts for up to 45-60 minutes. LES, Soho/ Tribeca at from 3.5 stars upwards about $200 - 210 a night (incl of taxes)Please post your limits in bid prices (less math for me to do ;) )... about $170 is your bidding limit? ...is that really quite limited in what I can find? With only two zones that you're willing to accept, and no re-bid zones, i do think it will take you awhile to bid this and you're not giving enough hotels the opportunity to accept your bid price. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? What time are you leaving town on Sept. 9th? aoigirl
Sorry, yes I think I am looking at $180 a night then. I'm leaving late on the 9th, but I am seeing that the Monday is the most expensive... I think we are right there smack bang in the middle of fashion wk and the US Open Link to comment
thereuare
At the 3.5* level there are NO re-bid zones. Over the next few days i would try the following: Select 3.5* LES... aoigirl
Hi, just an update. I used your bidding technique and got up to $205, and didn't get any success. I played around with the $210, but at that price including taxes etc, I knew I'd end up with fees that were more than what i was willing to stump up. IN regards to the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, there was the 3.5* LES hotel which ended up the $1123.08 (taxes inclusive) for 4 nights. Now with a 7% discount code via [another site] (found that on flyertalk), it would have been $1073, .. and then after I converted that to AUD, I would have ended up at about $1140 at today's rates (lucky enough to have a good conversion travel cc that only does the international conversion rates which are pretty good). So I ended up using a code that is on Hotels..com expiring today, and got the Wyndham non refundable rate for $1135.71 AUD, which is $1068 US at today's rates. Not only that I would have also got points on a using different credit card. I pretty much went through a bunch of sites and playing around with codes, and the Hotels.com with the code was the cheapest. It helped they had an Australian component of the site so there wasn't a ridiculous conversion rate from US to AUD (I played around with that too so I noticed they didn't hike up the prices). It ended up being cheaper than the IHG family and friends rate for the Holidays Inn chain too. Thank you so much for your help! I'm a bit bummed I didn't end up with much success this time! ps I used all the PRICELINE links on this board Link to comment
