Priceline Hotel: First Time at NYC/U.S. - need Help

Hey guys,

at first sorry for my bad english, but I am no native speaker.

I actually plan my first trip  to the states and need a hotel at nyc for 11/3/14 to 11/8/14. Most important is the location (manhattan) and a clean, non-smoker room with own bathroom. We are 2 persons. Do I have a chance to find something great with our budget $160 per night incl. taxes? at my first search at PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE I didn't find a deal which is looking like the deals you posted. What is my mistake?

And how would be the correct line of action? Please help me, I didn't use PRICELINE ever before, so I'm a real noob.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Your trip is in the Fall which is a more expensive time of year in NYC (vs. the summer which has the lower rates you're likely currently seeing and comparing to)

You don't mention what the minimum star rating you're willing to accept, but if the Lower East Side is acceptable (not the best location within Manhattan, but certainly do-able) you can get a 3* hotel for $140-$160 before taxes/fees... a more centrally located 3* will likely run $160-$180... and a 4* hotel will be closer to $200/nite.

I think 3 stars are enough for a standard room, lower east side is absolutly ok, a short walk is no problem ... my backup-solution would be the verve at long island, but I'm not sure if it's acceptable to go by subway to the hot spots or if it's much better to spend some $ more and go to manhattan.

You will have a much better experience if staying directly in Manhattan and the savings would need to be significant to make staying outside of the city worthwhile. What is the rate at the Long Island City hotel?

Assuming it makes sense to move forward with PRICELINE, are you ready to begin bidding/purchase now?

round about $150 all-in for the hotel on long island ... i will book our flight at the next weekend. after that we can start with bidding :-) ... taxes are roundabout 22 percent or?

is the location difference between lower east side and more central parts of the city so big? I thought with subway it's not the problem to stay a little bit outside. If I am wrong, I have to raise up my limit I think :-/

Staying outside the city is do-able... for the right price, and given the options currently available inside Manhattan i don't think LIC offers enough of a discount to make staying outside of the city worthwhile. It comes down to what the convenience and experience are worth to you... but (for me) part of NYC is walking outside of your hotel and having a bunch of things at your fingertips, whereas if you're staying in Long Island City you'll first need to walk to the subway, then take a short subway ride, in order to be in the 'heart' of the it. As well, having a hotel directly in the city makes it easier to get back to your hotel late at nite (when you may not want to be taking the subway) and also offers the convenience of being able to easily head back to your hotel mid-day to rest, drop things off at the hotel that you may have accumulated during the day shopping, freshen up before dinner, etc.

A lot can change with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE pricing in a week, so post back once your plans are firm and you're ready to move forward and we'll research more deeply at that time.
