Priceline Hotel: DOWNTOWN 4* OR BETTER...7/4-7/7

I've been checking out Hot.wire and Price.line, but haven't bidded on Price.line as of yet. The cheapest I've seen thus far is about $109/night, that's on Priceline and because it's under the save 60% summer express deal it doesn't list the name of the hotel until adter booking. I was hoping to come out a bit cheaper than that (I know, I know, probably wishful thinking). Any suggestions on bids anyone? Thanks, any info is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

Is this for Chicago? If so, there is no zone named 'Downtown', to avoid any confusion please list the zone(s) that you're willing to accept, by PRICELINE name, and we'll advise accordingly. Also, if you were hoping for less than $109/nite, what is your desired maximum bid for this trip?

Just noting that it is save up to 60%.  If you are seeing a 4* on the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals side of the service for $109 (I'm seeing a 4* Express Deal for $101 this AM) you're likely looking at $75-85 for a 4* in the River North-NMA area. The Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park area seems slightly more expensive. Would both areas be of interest or just River North-NMA?

Sorry...I'd prefer the River North or Millenium Park/Grant Park areas (Water Tower area would be my last choice of the 3). Anywho, I've been checking pretty much daily, and the rates had been the same almost all week, but dropped today (specifically HOT.WIRE). I did try bidding yesterday on Priceline and lost (of course), with an $80 bid for the River North area (I chose both 4* and 4.5* I think). I was thinking that maybe if I wait until this coming weekend or early in the week I might get a bit better deal through Hot.wire (more close to $100-$120 a night for 4*, or maybe better)....but then I feel like I'm running the risk of there not being a huge selection available because, of course, it's for the holiday weekend (or even worse, that the prices will skyrocket). I'm kind of on the fence about this, I'm wondering if I should increase my bid on Price.line, or continue to monitor Hot.wire??? Obvisouly I can't wait too much longer, and I know there's no sure way to tell whether the rates will increase or decrease in the upcoming days (I remember booking via Hotwire most recently back in April for Easter weekend, booked on the day of our arrival, and ended up being the Warwick Allerton--4*--for I think $70 a night....wishful thinking in this case I know!)

There is no way to know if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay.

You can use our Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins to see see what rates were for this holiday weekend last year as well as use our new service rated.drop... ask to be alerted any time a 4* hotel in one of your acceptable zones drops below $100 (or whatever price it is that you determine would motivate you to 'buy now')

There is no guarantee and it may vary year-to-year, but the 4th continues to seem to send people out of the city. I considered popular Wisconsin areas for the 4th weekend (Door County, Lake Geneva) and was greeted with the search result that every single hotel in both areas was pretty much completely sold out. There is no way to guarantee if rates will drop between now and your stay, but I would think hotels have a pretty good idea of occupancy traffic/demand at this point for the 4th weekend.

I am seeing what appears to be the Felix ($107), what may potentially be the Swiss ($127), W Lakeshore ($129) and possibly the Omni for $138 on Hot.wire. The prices you see may vary slightly - let us know if any of these would be of interest and we would be happy to point them out.

If you bid $80 for a 4* in the River North area and that was not accepted, I think you're quite close (probably $85-95) to a win. I'm also seeing a 4* in the Express Deals section in the NMA area for $107 and coupon SUMMER14 takes 5% off = $101.65. I'm guessing the 4* for $107 may be the Felix, though, which gets mixed reviews but is in a very nice location.
