Hi!  Newbie here so hopefully I'm doing this correctly!  Trying to book a hotel for our Legoland vac - aiming for Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa but something comparable in the area would be awesome!  Trying not to spend more than $150/night.

I need help identifying which hotel this might possibly be on Hotwire.  Travel dates 6/16-19, 1 room, 2 adults & 2 kids (3,7).

Carlsbad - San Marcos Area

4 stars

$151/night (reg $269)

Amenities:

Free Parking
Free Internet
Resort
Pet friendly
Smoke Free Rooms
Fitness Center
Pool(s)
Restaurant(s)
Business Center

Best guess?

Worth noting - site indicated last person that booked reserved the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort.

i'm also considering going on priceline and making offer for Carlsbad/Oceanside 4-star hotel - would offer of $125/night be a good bid and hopefully win res for something like the Sheraton Carlsbad or something comparable?  at this point i'm thinking any 4-star in carlsbad/near legoland 150/night or under would be a deal seeing that if i go through the normal channels of hotel search & reservation we'd end up spending $200/night for a 2.5-3 star hotel that is older/not spectacular but in a good location :/  seems like the risk/mystery of priceline or hotwire is worthwhile!

another hint on the hotwire 4* - i'm thinking maybe this isn't sheraton but maybe the lakehouse hotel (since it noted the previous buyer reserved this location) or the hilton carlsbad since it indicates the hotel has 4.5/5 rating on tripadvisor and sheraton is 4/5 on tripadvisor - lakehouse and hilton both 4.5.  thoughts?  don't know how accurate/handy the tripadvisor rating on hotwire usually is in determining which hotel ?!

I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Using this method here is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for this property:

Free Parking

Free Internet

Resort

Pet Friendly

Smoke Free

Fitness

Pool

Restaurant

Business

Golf

Tennis

... if this is what you're seeing, i'd agree that the best guess for this one would be the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort.

There are a few issues you have to decide if it makes bidding on PRICELINE worthwhile...

-PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, you'll be quad occupancy, so there is a chance that you'll receive a room with only one bed (and the hotel may not be able to accommodate, or may charge more for, a room with more than one bed, rollaway, etc)... whereas HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search

-the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zone boundaries for this area are slightly different, and if the property above is indeed the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort, this is in PRICELINE's Escondido-Vista zone... so you're not comparing apples-to-apples.

-HOTWIRE indicates only one room left for the offer above, so while you try to save more with PRICELINE (if you decide the risks outline above regarding occupancy are worth it) this property could disappear and you're possibly left with only higher priced options

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we will advise accordingly... or how it goes if you take the HOTWIRE offer above.

hi!  thanks so much for feedback!  used bidding helper and clicked on full amenities and yes, the list you provided matches up to the list i see.  yah, we figured if we had to drive 15 min to legoland to stay at a nicer hotel it'd be worthwhile to pay the $15 parking fee for the day :/

ooh now i'm on the fence if i should just go for it on priceline and just see if my offer of $125 per night is accepted ?!  typically does priceline reject or accept your offer pretty quickly like within a few minutes?  at least this way i can say i tried and if it's rejected hopefully the hotwire deal is still there and i'll go for it :P  do you have any advice for a good low offer on priceline for 4-star hotel in carlsbad - could i go any lower than $125 and expect an acceptance esp for a reservation in popular month like july?

and thank you for reminder about priceline occupancy - i think we would be ok if we ended up worst case scenario queen bed as our kids our small haha!  not ideal but would work.

I don't think you'll be successful on PRICELINE in the $125 area (i think you'll need to be closer to $200/nite for a 4* in this zone), but if you want to give it a try:

When bidding 4* in San Diego you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Oceanside-Carlsbad...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125

You can try the above, and if rejected, then take the HOTWIRE offer.

Any questions feel free to ask (especially confirming your re-bid zones if you're new to the subject matter)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks again for all your feedback!  I ALMOOOOSSST decided to go for it on Priceline and just see if my $125/night for 4* Carlsbad offer was accepted - but then I decided that in order to truly enjoy our short vac it was best to ensure that our room def accommodated all 4 of us comfortably - if my Priceline bid was accepted and we ended up with a single Queen bed, that would be sort of a bummer - manageable but not ideal.  And also very helpful to get your insight re what a realistic/likely-to-be-accepted bid would be on a 4* Carlsbad hotel in the month of July as I didn't really want to doing any re-bidding etc.  So we did end up at the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort which is indeed a short 9 mile drive from Legoland but we're only doing one day at Legoland and this will give us the opp to enjoy/explore an area we've never visited before on our other free day :)  Really appreciated feedback on this site - gave me some insight on how Priceline and Hotwire work as I've never used either site before and was only slightly familiar with how they worked - def helped in terms of quickly assessing the diff/drawbacks/risks between the two sites.  Happy with the result - thanks again!

of note:  i did search again on hotwire after i purchased just to see if the deal would be gone - it is still there but is now at $162/night instead of $151/night.
